2021 Palm Beach Boat Show...

Nope, I don't normally go anyhow. I just like to see the pictures shared here by the people who do go

If nobody goes, I don't mind. It might be not be responsible to go there this year.

I got my first shot yesterday. What a long frustrating journey. Won't be there, but wouldn't be anyway. At this point very few will get sick out of ignorance. So if it's ok by them it's ok with me. Shot or no shot I'm staying safe though. 2021 will be baby steps. I'm glad to see people making a living though. Hopefully they can do it safely.

There are certain areas that I find disgusting right now in the blatant disregard for the health and safety of their fellow citizens. South Florida is one of those areas. Spring Break is in full force. It worries me greatly as I think of our employees and the risks but we'll continue to enforce compliance with masks and distancing and temperature checks and then just hope we can continue to avoid major problems. While we're boating now in the Bahamas, we won't consider public gatherings such as a boat show. We feel so much safer in the Bahamas than in South Florida right now.

Wife and I have had both vaccine shots. Feel pretty safe now, at least fairly confident I'll survive a bout with Covid. So odds are I'll get to the show. I enjoy looking at new boat models and revisiting boats I'm partial to.

The return to some sort of "normality" has been wonderful -- dinner at restaurants with friends, raft-ups with members of a local YC, flights booked to see grandkids we haven't hugged for more than a year -- just great.

Just be careful. It's not over by a long shot. There's still thousands dying and being hospitalized every day. A lot of politicians (and probably the CDC) are caving to economic and political pressures. We still DK how effective the vaccine is against the different strains nor how long it lasts. For us this next year (once wife and I have both shots) will be a series of baby steps, lunch out with the wife in an uncrowded restaurant, road trips, vaccinated friends over with distancing, etc. DK if I'll ever feel comfortable in a crowd again, but I never much liked crowds anyway. Hug and kiss greetings are gone, but then it was never the hot young thing that wanted to hug anyway. It's always the old lady with too much makeup and perfume so Covid makes a good excuse.

Unfortunately it has been a reason to stop living for more than a half-million people and millions more hospitalized in this country alone, and that's people of all ages with or without medical conditions, etc. I know several people who have had mild cases, and good for them. I also have a friend who had 7 people in his office die from it. Personally dying from this scares the c--p out of me because of how you go, but whether it scares you or not only a fool doesn't take precautions against known dangers. I too am happy to see the show on and hope they'll be successful, but I hope they and the attendees will be smart and responsible and take appropriate precautions. The one good thing is that most of the people who get sick or die from Covid these days will have brought it on themselves. So their deaths will just amuse me.

Changed my mind. After watching news coverage this morning of spring break activities in So. Florida I wouldn't go anywhere near Florida, especially for any kind of gathering. I have no faith this show will be handled safely.

Maybe your buddy Cuomo will reserve a bed for you in one of his nursing homes.

I know of several manufacturers that will be in the show. I am running a yacht to the show. I never attend boat shows unless a customer asks me to accompany them. I see all of the yachts I ever want to see before they get to the show........

You betcha, I'm going. I have, as they say, had the jab and I'm rarin' to see the show. In the absence of Miami, I think this is going to be a great show. That said, I'm not stupid and I don't believe Covid is a hoax. I'm going to follow all the mask and distancing protocols, and just stay away from any crowds. I have a quote on my bulletin board: "I don't like how my chances of survival are linked to the common sense of others". That goes for a lot of things in life besides boatshows, and it works.

I went and it was awesome! It was amazing to see so many people who already had their vaccine out and about enjoying life and not governed by fear.

We did a float by viewing and with the reduced space, it was definitely busy. I do fear the covid cases resulting as distancing and masks were not being practiced by all. Obviously nothing like the beaches and bars however. There likely would have been a larger show, but several brokers simply had nothing to show. Attendance down but still impressive in the circumstances. I think there was a lot of built up desire to attend a boat show, any boat show. Now, translating that to business, my initial conversations indicate, for good reason, not a big show for sales. First, boat show sales are always publicly exaggerated. Second, the available inventory of boats for immediate delivery is low due to the very good sales over the past year and the reduced production. Third, those who haven't bought already are hesitant right now. Basically, those inclined to spend, did so. Those hesitant remain hesitant.

Still I think it would be labeled a successful show.
