Water leak in cap

    It is raining today..forward leak is definitely the joint where cap and hull meet...the head leak??? Ceiling is dry from all around...rail bolts are dry..seam is dry...but water appears in the cabinet from above...think I need an endoscope to look behind there

    Another helpful method for finding leaks along with endoscopy is to broadcast some powder in the area and/or lay in toilet paper to help see trails of leakage. A camera doesn't really show water against a gelcoat background very well.

    It was raining last night so I did some inspecting...the forward leak I almost got whipped...only a handful of drips so I am in the right area. The leak in the head is the problem. There is no water evidence on the vinyl ceiling or fiberglass ceiling. No water going down from the cap/hull seam. If i place my hand up behind the shelf, the water starts on the hull wall but if you look in from above where the water is felt, all is dry. So it has to be tracking along something to get to that spot where it drops

    Boomer, I have the same leak on my boat (44 SS), there is a panel between the back of the head cabinet and the hull. Is your's built the same way? The endoscope is a great idea so I can drill a small hole and look in behind the panel. I'm pretty sure my leak is from the rail to deck but it is only a guess at this point. So far I have fixed three leaks, two forward at the deck to rail stanchion locations and one in the head from the hatch. At least one more to go.

    Yes I have the removable panel up top...but you can't see down towards the wet area...that's where the endoscope will come in handy

    My son and I have the scope that was discussed above. It is excellent. Great for up close in a cylinder But it does not have a wide view which you might need for your investigation. Can you get a camera on a stick in there?

    Just a final update on these leaks...while out of the water, we pulled the rub rail off...sealant underneath was shot...cleaned up real good, put life caulk in there, and sealed it up real good...no more leaks! If anyone is having this leak problem, it is probably where the fwd lifting strap meets the rubrail when pulling out of the water....oh, and there about 200 screws per side..for the chrome and then the rubrail itself
