Thoughts on sandblasting my wheels

    Wheels are off for cutlass bearing change so it is time to re do my antifouling. I am 99% sure they do not need to be checked as there have been zero issues felt and they look perfect with exception of the prop speed. Can I sandblast them to clean the up or is that a bad idea.

    My initial reaction is no it's not a good idea. I suspect you'll damage the edges.

    Not really worried about edge damage as much as heat and warping. Have already decided I will just chemically strip and hand sand.

    Soda blasting may be an option?
    Had my bottom soda blasted 2 years ago, gentle on the gelcoat.
    (I should specify, the Boat’s bottom was soda blasted, not mine) :cool:

    You are correct, I was referring to warping when I mentioned the edges, just didn't clearly state that.

    The prop shop will sandblast them when you drop them off for repair. Sandblasting is fine if you're careful. Soda is safer.

    Would a wire wheel on a drill work? I've seen some shops do it that way before antifoul paint.
