Perini Navi to make a comeback under Blue Skye? It appears this company is going to be investing in Perini Navi to provide some stability for the nearly bankrupt Italian builder. We shall watch this story and if it fully goes through they we know the intent by SanLorenzo is nothing more than that.
Seems everything Lamberto Tuccoli touches goes close to the dust. This was the most successful large sail yacht builder, but something went wrong in the last five years. Sanlorenzo buying out of Perini will be a beneficial deal for both, as one can really admire Perroti managerial and expansion skills which will help Perini get out of the crisis, and SL would acquire important skills in building yachts above 50 meters which is where SL has entered in recent years. But current Covid-19 times do represent a sense of caution for what is always a challenging investment.
It is being reported that the former CEO of Perini Navi passed away. Giancarlo Ragnetti ran the yard as CEO for about 20 years before stepping down in 2014. He was 74 when he passed away. The current chairman and chief executive Lamberto Tacoli suggested the company "mourns the loss" of Giancarlo Ragnetti.
Why? If anything, it's just the "about 20 years" that is a bit off the mark. Ragnetti supported Fabio Perini since the Company foundation, in 1983. And he was appointed CEO in 1988, role that he kept up to 2014 (when he retired for health reasons). So that's actually more than a quarter of a century, rather than "just" 20 years. And he was indeed born in 1946, so I can't see what don't add up. Regardless, a true gentleman, whose style was second to none.
You can't see what don't add up because the forum admin has altered Yacht News' post #107 which used to read in part: "He was 74 when he passed away (1948-2020)" (I made the type bold). That would have made him 72, hence my comment. Sometimes the admin doesn't annotate when they have altered a post.
The PERINI saga continues after the auction of the company failed to attract any bids by the deadline which was yesterday. On offer are the shipyards of Viareggio and La Spezia, (with a 100% stake in Perini Navi USA), a yacht under construction, the current existing labor relations ( of which 75 employees remain) and state-owned concessions. A third auction is expected to happened...a date hasn't been set.
The Italian Sea Group purchases Perini Navi. The Italian Sea Group S.p.A. (“TISG” or the “Company”), global operator in the luxury yachting industry, through its 100% subsidiary New Sail s.r.l., won the Auction held by the Lucca Court for the bankruptcy of Perini Navi S.p.A., at an overall price of 80 million Euros. As indicated in the previous press releases, the auction includes the industrial and real estate assets of the shipyards in Viareggio and La Spezia, the building complex in Pisa, one vessel under construction (project n. 2369), trademarks and patents, the social participation (100%) of Perini Navi USA Inc. and the existing legal relationships with employees and third parties. TISG will finance the operation through cash availability, re-investing a significant portion of IPO proceeds collected at the beginning of June, as well as bank funding lines. The Company is extremely satisfied with the acquisition, operation that it has followed ever since the beginning and that perfectly integrates with its growth strategy and its competencies in the sailing yacht sector, already widely recognised by the market, which will allow the Company to properly enhance the Perini Navi brand. In particular, TISG leverages on: A strong internal know-how in the sailing yacht business; A proven track record in the enhancement of assets and brands, as demonstrated by the strong growth achieved through the Admiral and Tecnomar brand relaunches. Additionally, in Perini Navi’s case, the relaunch possibility is favoured also by the fact that the financial crisis which led to the bankruptcy did not involve the value of the prestigious brand, which has remained intact, as demonstrated by the prices recorded in the most recent transactions on the second-hand market; A considerable number of professionalities / people who had worked for Perini Navi, recruiteded by The Italian Sea Group in the last year, who factually contribute to create and cement an internal culture in the construction and refit of sailing yacht projects: the integration of additional employees from Perini Navi will therefore be quick and effective; Unparalleled track record in the refit of Perini Navi sailing yachts, with around 50% of the brand’s yachts having passed through The Italian Sea Group shipyard. It is expected that Perini Navi S.p.A.’s integration could bring several benefits to the Group: Expansion of production capacity which will allow the order intake for the refit to double and will lead to the acquisition of new contracts for the construction of 90-130 metre motor yachts; Growth in marginality for the refit. “I am very proud of this operation. The Company had already acquired from the Perini Navi bankruptcy two projects in progress, which are going to be completed through the NCA Refit division, which 3 has already operated in the refitting of Perini Navi vessels, as demonstrated by the four yachts currently present in the shipyard. Considering the growth in demand, and the renown competences, the Perini Navi brand constitutes a significant opportunity for The Italian Sea Group.
Has anyone here sailed one of these yachts? What does the helm feel like? The skeg hung rudders suggest high levels of load on the helm that would require hydraulics thereby eliminating any helm feel -- like on a power yacht.
Project 605 has been available for sale and is due for delivery in 2025. The yacht is basically a redesign of the 47-meter series .
