I had a lot of fun reading thru the FPB related posts on this forum. I just got back from checking out some of those boats in North Carolina ... and am trying to compare the various options for this LDL style boat. Things like the Ned70, the new Circa 24m, the Kooldjack 75 (not sure ever built). Anyone have any thoughts on the options out there right now. I am very much keen on the efficient, fast, safe, capable, low-maint outside, still classy interior ... type of boat. Also, any thoughts on yards in either LA or TX or perhaps as far as FL ... that can build one of these designs?
Painted, so not as low maintenance, but interesting... https://www.**************/boats/2014/whitacre-68-offshore-adventure-pleasure-yacht-2986488/
Don't understand "Painted, so not as low maintenance, " Good Polyurethanes only need to be washed. Most say don't wax. Gel Coat is a PITA in comparison. Maybe because this boat is Al?
There is the low maintenance aspect of bare aluminum, no cleaning/washing/polishing/etc. But there is also the low-worry, as in pulling up to a dock, having a dingy pull along side, being hauled out ... you don't worry about your $80k paint job being scratched. Kind of like when you get a new car ... the level of worry about scratches/dings decreases as it gets older. Bare aluminum seems like you start off at low worry ! and I think it looks neat, but I get that it's not for everyone.
