Where is the stop solenoid on the motor? Turned off the key today and hit the stop button and stbd. Motor wouldnt shut down...had to shut fuel off to kill the motor...ideas?
The fuel shut off stop solenoid should be near the fuel lines before the injectors, I will have to look on my Cummins qsb 5.9 but I think the plug in solenoid is around the fuel lines somewhere? I know it's easy to spot, a little solenoid plugged right in wired back to the helm. What engines?
Lol... indeed what engines!!! You don’t have manual for your engines on board??? A must have. In an emergency you can also cut off the air supply but putting a plastic bag over the air filter.
Have someone press the stop on the other engine a bunch of times when you're in front of it. On detroits it's generally right on top of the motor.
Should be top inboard about The middle. Solenoid is about 3in in diameter. At least on the J&T variant
It's right near / next to the governor. It's a round thing the size of a small fist with linkage coming out of it going to the shut down arm thing..LOL. and What Mbevins said... Or you can always pull the run a way engine cable to shut it down. You should test those every so often anyway. The cable is connected to the spring loaded damper plate on the blower. It's easy to reset at the blower/end of cable.
The stop lever on a 671 is on the governor. On mine if you kill the ignition first the fuel shutdown solonoid won't get power when you push the stop button. You can always turn the the lever manually in the engine room if you have a power failure or bad solonoid. Isn't it great to be running engines that don't need an outside source of power to keep running?
I will forever be a huge fan of the old, reliable, mechanical diesels. So incredible the damage done to my C-15 Cats from a non-direct-impact lightening strike that hit several hundred feet away. Bad outcome made worse by Pantropic.
Ok..figured it out thanks to you all...the arm that comes out of the solenoid has a rod with a ball on the end that goes into a socket attached to the arm...the socket attachment wore out and the ball fell out...what is that ball and socket contraption called? Temp fixed but want to do it right!
Just finished painting them for the second time in 25 yrs !!! I made the tubes from process pipe and used the old ones as patterns, also about 20 yrs ago .
