How many of these big boys do we know that are equipped with stern anchors and gear?.. i know about Octopus, Limitless and i think Sarah. What other yacht do you guys know about? Lets add to the list if we could?
In the Amels display ad just above your post, there appears to be a yacht with a motorized stern anchor -- does that count?
I believe Ice does, even though it don't look like it... I read it somewhere before, but who knows...lol
ok Lars, yea i know about Arcadia but Athena?i didnt know about her. As for V65, i never noticed Ice...i'll have to look out next time. So i'll assume that Lurssen Eos will have a stern anchor then too?
While stern anchors are rare on Superyachts, in Sweden we have them on almost all our boats! Since we visit natural harbours where it is shallow, we need to go in with the bow and drop the anchor from the stern. This is how it is fitted on our little 32-footer;
I've seen a few Horizon with stern anchors installed. They are in the range of the 80-100 feet. Different cruising areas require different equipment therefore I don't think it's something only seen on megayachts.
Hi, ICE-No , It has DP capability EOS- Yes VIRGINIAN- Yes HUNTRESS- Yes To be effective a stern anchor really needs to be of the same size and holding power as the forward ones, a small one can be more of a hinderance than a help if it's used, doesn't hold and the boat swings and the chain vanishes underneath towards the props( I have a real life practical experience of this very occurrence). This is never something that happens with no wind or current and miles of room to manouvre either.
Wow Lars, that 32 footer looks very cool, what kind of avessel is it though? Looks like it can pass for a luxury Pilot launch..
Thanks for the information K1W1. Ice is a fairly large yacht and has azimuthing pods so i would find it hard to believe she would rely on a stern anchor. So would it be a safe assumption that all the yachts or the few yachts that have Azimuthing propulsion will not have stern anchors but use DPS?
Oh they are commuters....still..very very cool....how much does one go for? (i wont even have the money for one)
The 32´is about USD 200.000 complete with radar and all you need. This is with the swedish 25% VAT included, so 150´without tax. The 25´you can see here and today with a diesel she is close to 100´... http://www.yachtforums.com/forums/6053-post57.html /Lars
They are really nice Lars..good job with the design. However getting back to the topic, a question came into my mind about Octopus and her stern anchor. I know she is commonly seen with that anchor down while at dock. What about when she is out at traditional anchor? Do they use this too or just the bow anchors?
I see no body could answer my Question.....however thats ok. I was wondering about Princess Mariana...if she has a stern anchor...i have seen this cut out on the Starboard side of her bathing platform...Kind of like Octo's own but smaller and on the other side...is this an anchor?
Wow, very nic contribution Capt Tom, i like the Princessa alot...i've never seen the anchor like that on the stern of a yacht before. Usually its pulled in laterally. She has hers vertically...a first for me!...thanks for the lovely pics.
YL, No problem. I thought that was interesting when I first saw it too, but I guess with no swim platform you can keep it above the waterline. Capt Tom
