No the thread is not about saving money on a rental car, it was about finding options because we were having trouble finding a rental car. So that got me to exploring getting a transport company. I would rather pay more to have my car transported back. But the wife is the tight one. The original post explains it.

I think your biggest issue is timing of all of this, to have your car where and when you want it. Other than that, I agree that I'd prefer to have my car sitting there with key locked inside and spare key in my pocket. But given the logistical challenges, I'm sure I'd rent a one way.

Home Depot is not a bad idea actually. Many, maybe most, rent Penske trucks and vans. Much more convenient than finding a U-Haul location. Udsed them about

There are companies that arrange for drivers to relocate cars but I can't remember any names.

I just flew on Delta and saw the video on how they sanitized and how much they care. As I was wiping down my seat with my own Clorox wipes, I made sure I picked up the crumbs in the seat fold with it; hope it was crumbs dropped before they were orally inserted.

You’re getting solid input already, especially about brokers vs. direct carriers and how tricky northbound routes can be this time of year. One thing that can really help is giving the hauler a flexible pickup window in Sarasota. Even a few extra days makes it easier for them to group your car with other loads heading toward North Carolina, which can reduce delays and sometimes the cost. And if your car is something you care about keeping in top shape, enclosed transport is usually worth the upgrade.

Another way to simplify the whole plan is thinking beyond just the transport piece. Instead of stressing over a one-way rental, some people drive down in their own vehicle, ship it back, and arrange a premium car waiting at the destination so they’re not scrambling last minute. That’s where Peacock Rentals fits in nicely, having a high-end, reliable vehicle ready in Wilmington can make the transition seamless while your own car is in transit, especially if you want something more comfortable than a basic rental after a long trip.

Whichever route you take, try to confirm exactly who the carrier is (not just the broker), check their insurance coverage, and get everything in writing. That alone can save a lot of headaches.
