Most surveyors down here suggest that the main battery switch off when not in use. Now, My story. I installed a new LoFrans on our Bert 2 years ago. During the install the only ANL fuse I had was a bit over sized, I would get a new one next time at the store. During the install, Some rain kept me off the for deck for a couple of days. Next sunny day, I was back cleaning up and sealing the deck / foot switches and finishing the headliner install. The time had finally arrived. I lifted the switch cover and hit the switch to lower the anchor,,,, nothing. Seems the up button got wet, brand new motor burned up because I left the battery switch on. F M Seems the price of a windlass is tall because of these freaking expensive motors. Double F M I do have the correct fuse in now AND my switch is always off when not in use.
I have an on/off switch at the helm which accomplishes that, so I don't touch my breaker except to occasionally test it
That on/off is a battery disconnect switch? Then you got it. My cables, lugs, crimps, fuse holders and other items were already in my shops inventory. Did not have a correct sized breaker (or fuse). One day, I'll incorporate the switch into a breaker switch and get rid of the fuse. Till then, mine works well also.
