    I have the same on our Bertrams fly-bridge. Sun will not eat these up like LCDs (that Aetna makes also).
    Ours come off the same pulse generator that Detroit uses. Mini electric PTO at one of the cam or blower shaft ends.
    Dip switches on the back of the display for pulses per rpm.

    Aha, I see.
    Do you possibly know if they are specifically designed for that setup, or they can work also with the alternator input?

    I remember you could drive them from an alternator.
    I don't care for that my self. A tach signal can be had better other ways.

    I do have a handheld laser tach onboard, whose accuracy is beyond belief, but can only be used in the e/room...
    If you are aware of something similar that can be remotely fitted in the dashboard, I'm all ears.

    Aetna offered a magnet and pick up kit. Four lil magnets glued inside the crank pulley. A mag pick up mounted from a support arm to pick up the pulses. 4 clicks per revolution. I have installed these for gas to Cummins conversions long ago using the same gas tachs with dip switch changes.

    Most later fly wheel housings offer a threaded hole for a pick up detecting the teeth on the fly wheel. Common on Cats.
    Other mfg like MANs have a tool hole over the flywheel teeth. This same opening can be used for a tooth pick up.

    Any clutch or older engines offer a PTO shaft. Tach adapter and pick up from there.

    All are reliable points for tach signals that will drive common dash tachs.

    Alternator stator pick ups are noisey, not accurate and mostly don't work worth a dam at idle.

    I bought a project. I’ve been fixing it up. I put new batteries, new bilge pumps and I just installed these tachometers. I have some rewiring to do behind the dash but she only has 1350 hours on the boat and engines. It’s a 1988 Post 46’. Thanks for sharing your info!

    I got a nice KUS GPS tachometer which will be used in a small project I'm working on. Pictures will be ready in a few days (hopefully). The other instruments are clock and voltmeter.

    I awoke last night realizing that I forgot about our friends at Glendinning. They can custom make tach solutions also.

    I bought a project boat 1988 46’ Post and have to go over all the wiring under the dash. The engines run mint. I’m not sure why the fire alarm light comes on. It’s 37 degrees here. The light may have come on due to the smoke on start up
