    The other thing I've found on Yachtworld is that prices of boats are about 5% higher than local listings for exactly the same boat.

    Why? Because it's a global listing, not just in your local marina.

    I wish Carl all the luck in the world with his venture but right now the only major player in the USA is Yachtworld and the sites they provide content for including Boats Dot Com.

    Their broker back end Boatwizard isn't any better. After years as a client I have given up trying to get them to make even small changes to improve the site. They remind me of the old phone company monopoly joke, we don't care because we don't have to.

    Yatco is also a player but just really in then~$1m + market.

    Not even close. Yachtworld has over 85,000 active listings. Yatco not even 8,500.

    Again, as I said, Yatco is in the bigger size and price market. YachtWorld has a lot of older boats and smaller boats. You won’t find many if any center consoles on Yatco. It’s a different market they are targeting.

    Hmmm. Wasn't familiar with Yatco. Not a perfect product either. Region restrictions not working properly. California is not on the East coast.....

    "Follow the money" Yes. but how do the changes reduce expenses and/or increase revenue for YachtForums? Are the brokers, the boat sellers or the boat buyers somehow better served? "Enquiring minds want to know."

    You mean for Yachtworld, not Yachtforums.

    And I don't believe that the loss of the search function was an intentional change, just sort of fell by the wayside and I'm betting will return.

    Have run across this sort of thing before, the web developer has never actually used the web site so has no clue what real users are looking for. Had a local broker put up the most user unfriendly web site ever. After many emails he confessed he gave the job to a relative who had just finished a course in web design. The kid threw every possible feature he could into this web site and had no clue how people might actually use it.

    Are those real brokers in Pupyachts or agents working for brokers far away. I looked at a few of their boats and met a few of the sales reps. Dumb Shitz them all.

    I was just asking someone about this. He said Yatco and Yachtworld are different. He tells me that YW has been bought by larger and larger companies. They have gotten crazy expensive and service is terrible. Sounds like how BUC went down the tubes.

    Here is a bit of history, but please don't take anything as precise facts as this is going back a lot of years. BUC was the original MLS for yachts. It primarily worked for brokers by providing a list of boats and BUC would fax you the information requested. When YachtWorld came to be, brokers copied their BUC specs and put them on YW. BUC said that when a broker subscribed to BUC, they agreed that BUC owned the information which meant brokers no longer had control, nor the right to put that information on YW. FYBA (Fl. Yacht Brokers Assoc). sued BUC and they lost. So FYBA started YATCO. It is rare even today to find a client who knows about YATCO. YW has been sold at least once and I think more. I don't know of a broker that likes YW but without question, it is the resource clients use, whether by choice or not. Although YATCO is improving over time, until someone comes up with the resources and marketing ability to offer competition, YW is the significant multiple listing service.
