    why did they leave that boat on the deck and let it float off?

    I guess that small boat was providing radio communications/power for the remote detonation. Notice the arial on top.

    It's a wonder the small boat didn't capsize in all the turbulence or get sucked down.

    Yeah, she was junk, but still sad to see a boat go down nonetheless.:(
