    Really? Are we talking about the same Cuba?

    Anyway, Americans have been going there forever. Anyone can fly from the Bahamas. Cuba customs will stamp a loose piece of paper to carry with you so there is no permanent record on your American passport.

    We haven't gone thru the Bahamas in a couple of decades, because they will turn you in. Customs will always try to trip you up. Flying in via Cancun, or up from Guatemala, Costa Rica or Panma is only safe routing. Who do you think built all those nice hotels there? Spain, the Italians, the Croats and most of EU countries. Just like fishing in Ven - we will continue to fish there. But you can fish in Sarajavo for trout, Russia for salmon,. Good friend just returned from Slovenia and Belarus last week. They all wondered where the Americans were. I had to explain their govt won't support thos countries - fools!

    Right you are - that was 60 yrs ago. And many of those casinos/hotels were owned by the mafia. You didn't mind visiting them, so what's the diff?
    America sells jets to China, North Korea (round about) and Russia. Don't give me the b.s. we don't support Commie countries. Go into any Wally and try to find American made products. Very difficult. Even the food comes from overseas - mainly Mexico which is a socialist country - two steps from CM. China owns most of Americas debt. In 20 yrs or less America will be a satellite of Bejing.

    Personally I don’t care as I had No intention on visiting a communist dictatorship. I went to Eastern Europe including east Berlin in the 80s. Seen it, done that.

    As to whether or not the embargo and preventing travel works, I have mixed feelings. If socialist Europe had not helped Cuba after the fall of the Soviet Union, the Cuban people would be free by now. On the other hand the embargo hasn’t worked but neither has relaxing it and allowing more travel. After all, soon after the US opened an embassy, it was attacked by microwave/sound weapons.

    Visited twice by yacht. Completely underwhelmed first time , second time I didn't leave the vessel to go ashore. Cuba isn't ready for prime time yachts or otherwise with little to no infustructure for cruising much less charter yachts . South coast and islands were pretty and resorts loaded with German and British tourists looked nice first time around but the Venezuelan Virgins such as Isla Rocca & Isla Margarita are much nicer and much more doable. No loss for cruising yachtsmen but unfortunate for the Cuban people once again...

    Used to fly there quite a bit, midnight turns out of MIA in the late 80's..... old Eastern gig taken over by Continental.... yuppers. Loooong story. Even paid duty coming back into MIA on my Monte Christos once because I had 40 instead of the maximum 20. I know... technically not possible.... but it happened.

    Yeah.... better to keep politics out of these pages. It will not add anything to the conversation other than disagreement. But some are not mature enough to realize that. Sticking around for now. Hopefully the mods will see the light.

    Boats. This is a BOAT forum. OK, yachts, lets argue about that.

    Wise call - very few governments come to the table with clean hands. On a positive note, the darkening global clouds are driving down the cost of oil. The price wheels on the hi flow fuel bowsers will be less of a blur!

    What is going on with all of the cruise ships that have had scheduled stops in Cuba with us citizens for a year out? Are they having to cancel them?
