Ha! What a difference the left coast makes. "USCG tows disabled vessel" East coast news blurb would have read, "USCG refers disabled vessel to commercial towing company".
I wondered about that too. I thought the only time the CG gets invloved around here is imminent peril of passengers and crew.
No commercial tow serves the area where it was. Apparently, it's fairly common for the CG to tow along the WA and OR coasts from what I've been told elsewhere.
