I own a 50’ 2002 Viking Princess FB MY. I agree w Silver Lining that she is a solid boat all around and drives really well. The hull is not cored. I’ve been in really bad ocean conditions and she is solid. Viking Princess and Volvo Penta offer excellent support. I have the upgraded VP 675 hp D-12s that can kiss 31.5 knots.

I really love the boat however she may be for sale soon when our daughter leaves for college. She has undergone a $450,000 refit since 2015 on nearly every system.

I am looking to purchase a 60-72 Viking princess (1999-2006) and can anyone tell me if properly maintained how may hrs I can expect of get out of the 1050 hp mans before rebuild and about what would be the cost per engine to rebuild them.

6,000-8,000 hours, probably $50-60k each

I also have a 45 Viking Princes 2001 and am very happy with her. We currently have a water leak in the starboard stateroom and I can’t seem to locate the source of the leak. I plan to remove and reseal around the windows with hope that this will stop it. But the corking looks good on the top portions not sure about the bottom. Have you had any issues with water leaks. Recognizing this is an old post , hope you’re still around as you sound like a very knowledgeable Viking princess owner. I am currently in the market for one and fell in love with a 2003 50 which appears to be in top shape. Extremely impressed with the quality of the build and I loved every inch of the boat until I got to the engine room. While the D12‘s have been perfectly maintained and just had 1000 hours service, there is zero space to maneuver on the outboard sides. In addition, even approaching center line I had to turn sideways and contort myself and had trouble reaching the front of the engines. Obviously, this raises significant concerns about the ability to perform routine maintenance along with time it takes for a mechanic to perform maintenance and/or repairs. You mentioned in your post that you have access through salon floor? The model I am looking at does not appear to have this feature, (although I did not tear up the carpet in the salon to check). In addition, inspecting from below in the engine room, it didn’t appear there were access hatches or cut outs. I would love to understand if on your boat this was a factory option or if you made that modification? Also, any workarounds that you have found or can recommend.Thanks!

I had a 1999 50 ft Viking Princess for many years and ultimately it was a great boat. We put 2500 hours and about 25000 miles on the boat. We liked it enough to buy a 68 ft Viking Princess which I am sitting on now at a island.

My 50 Viking Princess had a hatch in the salon for engine room access. It is quite tight like many 50 ft flybridge boats, but all standard things like oil check, fuel filters etc. were accessible by design. But, I could role the carpet back, pull up some floor panels and have excellent access to the engines for major service work like aftercoolers etc. I had 3208 Cats in mine. So with the removable floor panels engine access was actually quite good, and if you are moderate in size than simple things can be done through the hatch without removing floor panels.

Of course, now that we moved up to a 68 ft boat with stand up engine room one gets spoiled quick.
