I'm confused about the rocker bridge pin failure. Can somebody explain what happened here? I've heard of bolts backing out of one side ( never torqued)and overloading the other side and causing it to break out of the head but not pin failure on a Detroit.
Here is a photo of the bridge pin leaking once the system was pressurized. Unfortunately, the bridge pins are press fit when the cylinder heads are manufactured and under the bridge pins is a coolant passage. Just another one of many ways to have a $50k event.
Sounds like somebody tried to loosen the lock nut on the adjusting screw with the bridge in place. Never a good idea! They're not designed to withstand any side load.
Boomer We ready to fish yet?? It's cold up here. Ready to come down to warmer climes and go fishing. You have to take out fishing a bunch of supporters who have shed tears (not checks) with you. I'll wait for the second trip.... Luv ya guy. Safe and Merry Christmas.
If its a push fit can you not get a larger diameter pin made and push it in or get one made with a thread in the end and cut a matching one in the hole, you could even add a lock nut if you were worried about it coming loose.
Check!!! Waiting to feel comfortable first then we can arrange something! Did a test run Christmas day and all seemed well...will put some more time on it maybe this weekend to continue break in..btw, hope you had a merry Christmas yourself and a happy new year.
Well...we had our 3rd in a row successful trip with the boat now...no motor problems...knock on wood...let the summer come!
