As we cannot find parts on these anymore, how long do they usually last? Besides changing oil every couple years, is there any other maintenance to do?
There are parts and shops that are experts in finding, recycling and sometimes just making things work with precision hammers. There are just to many of them out there for you to feel to naked,,, at this time. Just take care of them, tell them you luv them. Pat them on their,,,, case from time to time. Fresh oil and clear oil coolers will keep them happy also. However, I have always tried to be a good BoyScout. Out 32Volt Bert turned 40 this year. Original Detroits and original TD 514s. I know where my spares are. There will be one heck of a Viking's funeral on Bertie when we pass, She's a keeper till the end.
Jinxed myself....servos or something is leaking..wont stay in neutral even if I hold the shifter on the tranny..fwd or reverse...neutral for 10 sec only...just when I was starting to feel good about her also
Fix in place. You need to find a local guy that knows something about clutches. The valve manifold theory works the same between most mfg's. Just looks way different. Order in a selector seal kit.
I thought the manifold was on top. Where does the control cable go. That rotating shaft has O Ring seals and one has failed.
Transmission fixed...it was valve body control valve...bad oring and teflon gasket...we will try again this weekend...question...my mechanic mentioned putting g 10 oz.. of marvel mystery oil in the trans fluid to flush system out and then change the oil and clean the screens...anyone ever heard of this?
Rinse the clutch & clean the screens; Yes. With additive; No. The Marvel oil, Brake fluid and snake oils help the seals swell. Something you do not need if all else is working well.
