In the subject thread https://www.yachtforums.com/threads/news-outer-reef-delivers-860-deluxebridge-ruff-seas.30498/ the Outer Reef 860 is said to reach 22.5 knots with 750 hp John Deer 6135 engines. I think it would top out at around 14 knots with those engines. To reach 22.5 knots would probably require something like 1600 hp Cat C-32's.
No doubt, you're right! Thanks Leeky. I removed the speed info, but should probably remove the entire news piece. We stopped covering Outer Reef years ago, but we've been trying to focus more of our coverage on mortal size boats so I let this one slip through the crack. Thanks again.
Well, I hope you keep covering Outer Reef as I really like them. (I know your story with Outer Reef.) But if you feel you need to remove something, maybe removing this thread would satisfy you. It no longer applies.
On their web site, Outer Reef is clear and it's exactly as Leeky observed. I don't see that they did anything wrong except in typing or editing someone made a mistake. 14 knots with standard engines and a cruise of 9 knots. Several engine options and the 22.5 is with the maximum hp. I also like Outer Reef and hope you continue to follow them here. Not a boat I'm going to purchase but one that is right for a lot of people.
I believe the OR860DB and/or the OR880 could reach 24kts with the C32 Tier III 1800 Acerts. That was quoted to me by Joel Davidson a few years ago. Just recently CAT came out with 1900HP C32 also, engine is the same dimension as the 1800, so that might be an option now too, and with that I'm thinking possibly 26kts, 12 to 18kt cruise speed. Any Outer Reef owners in need of a Captain (100 ton Master)? .. prefer West Coast/California.
