If you were on a sightseeing trip, what would you want to see between Canso Strait and Quebec City? Assume you have a land vehicle shadowing you so no problem getting around.
A good stop was Tadoussac Quebec, there was a nice marina there but he would not let any yachts over 50' tie at his dock so we anchored in the well protected bay by the marina, I was on a 74' Viking S/F that was 5 years ago. That's a sevenstar ship. I find it amazing that they ship several ships to the Great Lakes from Europe. But you can never ship a yacht from Fort Lauderdale to the Great Lakes on a ship.
Jones Act. Goods shipped from U.S. port to U.S. port must be on a U.S. laid keel & Flagged vessel. They don't ship from The U.S. East Coast to California, Oregon, or Washington State, either. Nearest ports are Ensenada, MX. and Victoria, Nanaimo, or Vancouver, Canada.
Capt J's statement was rhetorical. He knows the law, just not necessarily the logic today. There are other ports too, including the Bahamas, just not used by Seven Star.
I'm surprised there isn't more use of the Bahamas and areas other than the standard ports used. Clearly not the same ability to handle larger boats or deep draft ships. However, there are enough boats shuttled between South Florida and the Great Lakes to make it worthwhile I'd think to set up some sort of semi-annual boat. The other option I've not seen used is to ship via the US carriers. They carry other goods to and from. There would also seem to be the potential of linking two shipments. Ship from South Florida to Montreal. Unload. Ship from Montreal to Lake Michigan. Some of you in St. Lawrence World may have seen some things tried worth reporting on.
There are plenty of Canadian ports in the Great Lakes they can offload in which are right across from the US side of things. I am VERY aware of the general shipping routes that they ship yachts on. I have done around 700 freighter loadings/offloadings for the major yacht shipping companies. I honestly feel there is enough for one small freighter to the Great Lakes and one from it at the right time of year. You can pick up in multiple US ports, you can only drop off in one before going to another country as a foreign flagged freighter......so maybe a pickup in FL, one in NY and 2 dumps in the great lakes.
What Capt J says is no different than Victoria, Vancouver and Ensenada. Vessel shipments to those three ports are mostly for US delivery.
About seven years ago a person up in Michiagan made arrangements to ship eight yachts from Fort Lauderdale to Sault St Marie Ontario to unload will not mention the shipper name but after three ships did not show up they ended up bringing them by water arriving here late in the summer. A dealer in St Clair Shores used to unload their new boats in New York then up the Erie Canal and the Welland Canal now they ship them from overseas to Cleveland Ohio. I agree with Captain J at one time I am sure you could have filled two ships with yachts from Florida to Great Lakes but I find now that the owners are now keeping a boat in the Great Lakes and another one in the south you got on my Welland Canal page a few years ago we loaded US yacht on a foreign vessel on Lake Ontairo just off the Welland Canal to Fort Lauderdale.
