I'll get the ball rolling here with an easy one: Never Say Never Again, 1983 (adaptation of Thunderball) the Disco Volante was renamed The Flying Saucer, (its English translation), and owned by Maximillian Largo. In real life, the 282-foot yacht that was used in long shots for the film was known as the Nabila and was built for Saudi wheeler/dealer Adnan Khashoggi. The yacht was later sold to American wheeler/dealer Donald Trump, who renamed it Trump Princess. Later Trump sold it to Prince Alwaleed bin Talal bin Abdul Aziz al Saud, who christened it the Kingdom 5KR. 1980 Benetti FB116
Tomorrow Never Dies 1997 - Media Villain, Elliot Carver was quite ability armed with the "Sea Shadow" In real life, she was revealed to the public in 1993, Sea Shadow (IX-529) is an experimental stealth ship built by Lockheed for the United States Navy to determine how a low radar profile might be achieved. She was housed at the San Diego Naval Station until September 2006, when the vessel was relocated with the HMB-1 to the Suisun Bay Reserve Fleet in Benicia, CA. The vessels are available for donation to a maritime museum. Length: 164 ft (50 m) Beam: 68 ft (21 m) Draft: 15 ft (4.6 m) Displacement: 563 long tons (572 t) Propulsion: Diesel-electric Speed: 28 knots (52 km/h; 32 mph) Sea Shadow has only 12 bunks aboard, one small microwave oven, a refrigerator and table. She was never intended to be mission capable and was never commissioned, although she is listed in the Naval Vessel Register.
One for the star himself, that may not otherwise be recognized as a "Bond boat". Casino Royal 2006, Bond and Vesper Lynd sail from Montenegro to Venice aboard a Spirit 54 sailing yacht, made by Spirit Yachts. LOA 54'9" 16.7m LWL 39'8" 12.1m Beam 10'10" 3.3m Draft 7'6" 2.3m Displ. 7.8 tonnes Current status of this vessel is a mystery to me -
Casino Royale 2006, Bond Villain Le Chiffre’s Sunseeker Predator 108 – M3 Working closely with Sunseeker's designers and drawing office, film producers EON Productions took 6 weeks to create full-scale sets of the Predator 108's Deck Saloon, Aft Cockpit and Master Stateroom. Once created, the film sets were dismantled in the UK, transported and re-constructed in Prague, where mounted on a hydraulic platform to simulate the movement of the sea during filming. 2004 Sunseeker Predator 108 - 108/01
That Sea Shadow thing was just beautiful. While googling it, I also came across another X-ship that was looking like a giant tarantula and has two flexible rubber hulls "to contour waves". Wonder if anything "mission-capable" ever came out of those projects.

Yacht from "Thunderball" Does anyone remember the yacht from "Thunderball"? What kind of yacht was that? Does anyone know?
------------------------------------------------------------- ADDENDUM First owner was Adnan Kashoggi of SA and name of yacht was NABILA (not Nabilia), after his daughter's surname. It was then the largest yacht ever built with 87m (not 86). Later, A.K. had to sell it and the subsequent owner was the richest royalty in the world, 29th sultan of Brunei Hassanal Bolkiah. He anchored the boat near the state's capital Bandar Seri Begawan with a permanent captain on duty, who resigned from boring at dock since HH H. Bolkiah never sailed the yacht. D. Trump acquired then the boat, mistakingly thinking it was [still] the largest yacht available ; seems Mr Trump was not well informed nor knowledgeable in the matter. Learning the truth, he ordered for a complete cutout of the yacht to install an extension (+ 13 or 14m if I remember well). He never sailed the yacht himself anyway. However, it did not help much the ranking, since many megayachts were already popping up everywhere in a permanent race between recent IT billionaires, traditional Gulf royalties and newly enriched Russian oligarchs. Prince Al Waleed Talal bin Saud renamed the yacht following his main company/charity fund that relates also to his childrens' initials. Note some very old footage of the yacht stupidly appear in the beginning of the recent "Wolf of Wall Street" movie, in an attempt to illustrate Jordan Belfort's properties including a "46m yacht"... Nabila is still one of the most beautifully designed private yachts, even if it lacks most of the amenities that are now standard - mandatory features (cars garage, transformable stern turning into floating deck, side hatches for tenders, mini-submarines, jetskis,...etc.etc.)
She is owned by an Irish guy in HOWTH YACHT CLUB or at least she was last year was for sale so may be sold
WoW, a blast from way back when. It’s always fun to revisit our words from the past with new friends. And with that welcome MBLANC – I am honored that you chose my recollection of history to recalibrate. So let’s see… I agree; Khashoggi’s Benetti was named Nabila and not Nabilia, if you read closer you will see that’s what was stated in here in 2011. However, Nabila is her given name, her surname would have been Khashoggi. As for the vessel being the largest yacht built… that recognition would be offered with the caveat of “the largest yacht built in Italy at that time.” Let’s not forget; “Issham Al Baher”, “Christina O”, “El Mahrousa”, “Savarona”, and a hand full of others that don’t immediately come to mind. And to be clear, Khashoggi did not sell the yacht. The vessel was repossessed by the Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah. Khashoggi borrowed $49mil USD to complete the Yacht and failed to make the first or any subsequent payment. Trump purchased the boat from the Sultan for $29mil USD - $1mil USD to forfeit the use of the name for a total of $28mil USD. The vessel has never been extended and retains its Lloyds Register Classification at 86m. The 13m-14m designation that you refer, is not meters, but millions. Trump is rumored to have spent $13mil USD to $14mil USD to refit the vessel. Ten million of that is believed to have gone to Amels in Holland for structural refit to correct Benetti’s work. The rest of your post is editorial, and I will respect your privilege of opinion. This is a big forum. Thanks for choosing me first, and welcome.
I can not give an exact date; Trump Princess spent one night on a barge ball in Jacksonville fl approx '89/90. There was a stir on the radio with the StJohns Pilots. Because of her draft a pilot was required. The T P argued it a while on the open radio and lost. While on the Ball, across from the ole Gator Bowl stadium, I circled her a few times on my boat late that night. Every circle around her, more security people came on deck and followed us around. At that time, she would have been the largest private boat that far up our river.
An old family friend, John, was skipper and 1st mate Ian would have been there. They have thousands of miles under their belts and would have considered a pilot a bit of an insult. That said, we once got a 188' yacht stuck on a sandbar coming out of the yard in Miami. Done by the bloody pilot!
Draft dictates the rule. Not sure of the number; any draft more than 8 feet must have a pilot for Jax/Port - StJohns river. It's a close band of pilots here in Jax. An outsider may never work here. But once in a while you do hear of a boo boo.
