1980 46' post sliding door & ladder help

    I am doing a lot of work on my 46' post , and having a hard time finding the correct mortise sliding door latch lock assembly,it seems my door is drilled for an assembly that has a backset of about 2.5" and the knob and lock are 3.5" on center,any other post owners have the same issue?.... Unfortuneatly the previous owner removed it and can't find it along with the 70-75 degree angled fly bridge ladder bases...I have looked every for the bases,but haven't had any luck...any help would be appreciated

    Hi
    I wanted to introduce myself to the forumn, my name is matt and I am in Northern California , my hobby is buying damaged yachts and refurbishing them ,I purchased the " black cloud " from the insurance company and I am in process of completely refitting the boat,.The previous owners Did a tremendous amount of work to the boat

    before they launched it and had a muffler failure, I would be happy to share pictures of the progress as the project progresses if anyone is interested

    unfortunately with the demise of the original Post, much info re suppliers and specs has been lost. You may hove to go with a local smith to help you, or change to a latch assembly that is available today.

    I went through the same search when I got my '82 Post 42 about five years ago. I finally found the exact replacement at Merit Metal Products, Warrington, PA. I ordered the Sliding Door Lockset #1786C-FL-RH. However, I had to reuse the exterior portion shown above because the one that came with my order was too shallow. You can reach them at (215) 343-2500. I don't see that part listed on their website, so it may be a special order. As I recall, the cost was close to $400.

    Thanks for the info guys,Post yachts referred me to Merit metals and they referred me to brassworksinc. They can build me correct one for $ 1055.00, I think I'll fill the holes and buy a five oceans for $105.00, mine actually has knobs with a deeper backset than what seems to offered off the shelf today.
    Yes I purchased the"Black CLoud" that was discussed on this forum, the previous owners replaced the wood/glass aft deck with 316 stainless,along with a new fuel and water tanks,live well and many other items, I would guess they probably hit,stepped on,dropped something on..etc on the mufflers and didn't realize they damaged one, I am putting the largest mufflers I can get in the boat,I have done all the electrical work,and I getting ready to run new septic lines the boat had 1" lines I would like to run 1.5" lines, but it seems it's tough to run the 1.5" from the aft head under the shower to the fwd head, it looks as though running 1.5" from the fwd head down the center bilge to the holding tank which is under the master stateroom bed shouldn't be a problem...has anybody else done this?the large storage area in the front of the salon( under the windshield) is a area I am considering putting the fan oil for the split a/c system for the master stateroom and running vents and return through the ceiling, currently the fan oil/evaporator is hanging from the ceiling in the stateroom, there is so much dead space in there, it would be nice to hide it and probably be quieter too....I'll post some pictures soon

    I would have to agree. I have been getting parts from Post all winter for projects here and there. They aren't the fastest to get things done with, but they have come through with a bunch of odds and ends for me. Got a new Rudder, bunch of fasteners, and few electrical odds and ends.

    That's great to hear, for a while they were stone silent. Hope they get an order for their Hull #1 - Post belongs in the battlewagon market!

    RT, agreed. I think they need to make at least one boat - a 50?- so prospective buyers can judge if the former quality is there again. But I'm glad to hear they are a source of info again.

    Chicken and the egg I guess. I agree that from our side of the table, they need to get something tangible in order to promote the product and demonstrate the skill level; but I can see how the speculative financing of such a project is scary/unrealistic. Personally, I haven't seen the level of commitment there that I would trust being the guy to order hull #1. Coming from the customer service I got when I owned a Henriques, its a bit of a let down.

    Is there a market for a new 50 ?
    My understanding was that the market for boats of that size was pretty small right now considering the economy and the used market.
    I thought they might need to produce something larger, greatly increasing their investment.

    Anything would be better than nothing though.

    The lack of interest in the 45-55 market has me worried. In the future, the used boat market in that size will be pretty slim.
