Definitely keep an eye on the oil level. If low, check the pilot shaft seal first, if there are no obvious signs of leakage. Also, remind the Magistrate that, "They did take full responsibility..." It would be nice if you had something in writing, regarding warranty, to show the Magistrate.
Magistrates decision The magistrate determined that: On the previous removal and rebuild of the gearbox, I had paid every account, without delay, when it was presented. The gearbox failed approximately 30 hours after this rebuild. At the time, I was told all work was to be done under warranty. Any work done by myself may void the warranty. The cause of the failure was that during the first rebuild, the mechanics had installed the hydraulic hoses in the wrong order and had installed the wrong oil filter as well. The owner of the company had made the decision to remove the gearbox, have it taken apart BEFORE he or his mechanics had done a simple diagnostic check of the oil filter or the hydraulic hoses. Had he checked these, the gearbox would have been operational within a few hours. The work done to rectify the gearbox should have been covered by warranty. After many hours and 2 visits to court, it was extremely satisfying to see that even with every effort by the mechanic and his staff to "muddy the waters" and attempt to baffle the magistrate with mechanical terms and testimony from his staff, at the end of the day (literally) the magistrate saw through all this nonsense and found the issue should be thrown out. The mechanic brought 3 staff to support him and they all made statements supporting him. For the sake of the boating public and without malice, I would truly like to name this person and his company, however he has shown that he will head for the courts at any and every opportunity, so I therefore have left the issue go. He has 3 cases going that I know off.
