    Took a run today, to see some friends off for a cruise on the Carnival Pride. They took this picture, pacing her at 13 knots. See how far we are from the ship? Apparently it wasn't far enough for the Coast Guard, I REALLY hope he has some video of their antics!

    They didn't cite, they charged at me with a twin jet RIB equipped with a manned bow mounted gun. 3 times! The last 2 times were after I hadn't moved from the last time they appoved my position. I REALLY hope my friend has some video.

    With due respect, tracking a cruise liner in this day and age is like telling Taliban jokes while you're waiting for your plane. Doesn't look like you are that far away according to that picture. Just saying.... not judging.

    You really needed to be there Beau. They did the same stuff with other boats including some poor little Catalina 22 trying to go upwind on a pathetic little outboard. A real threat:rolleyes: BTW, the second two times they charged me I was at the distance they had approved of previously, and had made no provocitive moves, holding a steady course. I was almost 200 yards away.

    The CG can get you scratching your head, no doubt about it. When my son was 12 years old, his 13 foot whaler was boarded from the bow of a 44 (?) cutter in Oyster Bay, seriously.... He was instructed to put his bait knife on the front seat, and "declare" any other weapons he had. That was 20 years ago.

    BTW, hull #3 looks like its coming along very nicely.

    AH, I was with him. late April, we were fishing from his new for him whaler, we were both facing shore, as we were hailed from behind - no kidding! I think they used us from a training exercise. The guy actually slid from the BOW of the cutter into the whaler!

    As a law enforcement officer I will advise that when we instruct PO's the first thing that we drill into their head is to make sure that any weapons at a scene, boat stop or car stop can be used against you. With that said for everyone's safety including the Police on the scene we advise to make sure that any weapons are made safe or held by us temporarily. I am not well versed in CG patrol procedures, but a well seasoned law enforcement officer can almost always find a lawful reason to make a stop on land or water.

    Now I do understand that.

    It is sad to state; There are groups of folks out there that believe they have a gun & a badge they can act like butt heads, not follow any thought of courtesy, above any level of safety, arrogant, and usually disregard the same laws they are trying to enforce. They act this way to everybody and it's not personal to any one of us.

    Nothing personal, of course.

    I have tremendous respect for the men and women of the CG, and I agree with everything you said. Its way in the past, but it was a ridiculously funny potential video (Camera phones weren't available) 44 feet actually boarding 13 feet - dunno. Any way, Jon and I have fun retelling that story. Again, I think it was a spur of the moment training exercise and they were going by the "numbers"

    All over! Good thing I'm used to fixing wood boats! Worse, the previous owner could not screw on the teal trim so he used 5200 to glue it to the glass. Naturally the glass broke trying to get it out.
