Boats arriving in Mallorca

Now some big boys

1. Luerssen yacht Pacific. Making computer software must be very profitable. Please notice her onboard helicopter (Eurocopter). Stunning looking yacht and very well maintained.

2. Luerssen yacht Solemates. Looked pretty abandoned and quiet. Absolutely no activity around and on the boat. Getting ready for the charter season looks different. Is also for sale but at a very high price. One of the nicest boats in the Luerssen 200 ft class. Layout and interior design are perfect, both for owner use only and charter.

3. Kokomo, lives here all year. Looks great and sails very nice. I can tell, did run away from us last year .

1. One more Kokomo. In the backround you may see the yacht Enigma.

2. Cruise Ship My Ship 2 from TUI Cruise Line. The only Cruise Ship in harbour today. Maybe to early in the season. Not a beauty but passenger comfort is suppost to be very nice.

More biggies and beauties

1. Yacht Ilona under some refit, repair, cosmetics.

2. Royal Huisman yacht Twizzle undertaking some refit and sale repair / maintenance. Also I am a classic fan, as far as sailboats are concerned, this boat is my absolute favorite at the moment. And it is for sale but her asking price is red.........! IMHO, at her asking price, she will stay on the market for a whille.

Last one for today

Yacht "Star Fire" entering harbour and looking for mooring. The crew got a nice laugh out of us, as they shocked us with dropping her port anker just behind us and looking at our asking faces .

Twizzle... I know I swore if she came on the market... then I saw the 59 million asking... then looking for excuse then got to thinking off all the hidden high tech equipment stashed in all the nooks and crannies... and someone getting mad about having to take the boat apart to get to some little aggravating problem... but then
Kokomo... 60% of the asking and Ed Dubois says its the best one he's done... but the but is K1W1 posted a comment about the twin underwater anchors... and the tangle that entails... sounds great but full of unintended consequences...

Todays capture from Porto Portals. The harbour is pretty booked.

1. A full array of plastic fantastic .

2. Nice looking "vintage" yacht Tranquility.

3. As well kown, one of my favorites in the 80 ft class. The Horizon yachts EP 77 or former Bandido 75. A true passagemaker and long range trawler yacht.

1. I believe, whe talked about this dark monster last year, when I got her in Port Adriano. Cant remember her name.

2. Riva Rivale. 2 x 1100 Hp MANs. A nice chase tender or daycruiser. Great design in and outside. As my son keeps saying, a perfect lady transporter .

3. Believe it or not, I found two (!!!) sportfish yachts in Porto Portals today. Not a common catch in Mallorca. I can not name the first one. The second one was around 50 ft and was sitting on the hard for some underwaterbody cleanup. It said Luhrs on the side of the Flybridge but was in a bad position to make a picture. Will try again.

4. Abeking yacht Emminence on the hook outside the harbour (to big to enter anyhow). One of her tender was busy to shuttle crew and guests.

Babylon (ex: Light Blue) the 2005 Rodriquez 38ish meter.
I am amazed each time I see her following the transformation (refit). Certainly a different boat, and in a different price category.

Little happening today

I had a funny happening in a supermarket in the little harbour town today, where I live here in Mallorca. Two female english crew members (chef and stewardess / deckhand) of a sailing charter yacht came into the market in order to buy some provisions for the next trip. Each lady took three (!!!!!) shopping carts and starting emptying the small market. They took all eggs, all meat, all beer, all bred, most of the red and white wine, most of the fruits, especially all strawberries and a LOT of other things, it looked like a robbery. Only one cashpoint was open, which means, the shop was paralized. The local (spanish) female customers started fighting the two crew members and the female shop manager was about to call the police.

Me old and poor legal German alien, being accidently in the shop (to buy a bottle of Cognac for bribing (motivating !) the house maintenance guy, which is comming tomorrow), tried to negotiate with my humble spanish between the two crewmembers and the uprising spanish ladies. I ended up being the victim of both sides. The crew members payed and escaped with their catch and the totally upset Spanish Ladies had to wait for the emergency resupply truck from the neigbour town.

Lessons learned: Never try to negotiate in a fight between women, especially when one party speaks a local dialect (Marjokin), which even a native Spanish cant understand and my local house keeper will have to do the shopping here in town in the next future.

I get a kick out of Chris Rock but it just doesn't translate into French very well and when I tried to explain it to the lady of the house I got to go to 0600 Mass everyday for a week... which is my fate today otherwise I would be dead asleep right now rather than getting ready to take the ladies!

Actually, my very elderly mother is very good at buying everything in sight too. OMG peach season she still insists on buying them by the box after box and then supervising (her hands are too cripple to do a lot) a production of a years supply of canned peaches... but they are really good.

Is not Tranquility the Amels Rio Rita... sure looks like it?

Maintenance and repair

1. Every long term staying yacht at the outer pier has its own enclosed garage for tools, material and spare parts directly behind her mooring. Very handy feature.

2. A temporary shed for fairing and painting under controlled enviromental conditions. Totally enclosed with shring wrap and full climate control. Very common in the Med due to lack of fixed facilities. This carbon mast from Marten Spars in the foreground is worth the equivalent of a good sized family home in a very nice town in Germany. Just for a stick on a boat .

3. Somebody tried to repair a Mercruiser V8 petrol engine on a Frauscher tender by means of a cell phone long distance call to the factory. Sounded and looked pretty clueless and unsuccessful. B.T.W. the guy was the official local mechanic for / from Mercruiser . The boats are the (static ) display boats of Frauscher yachts Mallorca.

4. Yacht Blue Eye with her Beach Club opened for cleaning and maintenance. Pretty big place but looks like a busy job for the crew to set up.

Some more shots of Leander G. Also it is an older yacht, I believe she is still looking pretty nice and her charter booking is not bad at all. She is leaving tomorrow on charter to Cannes and Monaco for the Festival.

Please note the poor deckhand hanging around on the hull for window cleaning . And later, he was send to the mast (he did not know at time of the picture but the chief engineer told me) in order to clean the mast around the dry exhaust stacks. Tough job, once a week, because of the old Deutz V12 diesel engines.

1. Baltic Yachts 84 ft GRP sailing yacht Turconery. Used for charter with a crew of two.

2. Nautor Swan 80 S for sale at 6.25 Mio Euros without VAT. IMHO this asking price needs to be lower in order to motivate any potential buyer at all.

3. The vintage sailing yacht, which I showed yesterday, is the 1939 (!!!!!) Feadship IDUNA. 75 years old and still going strong. Great rebuild. 100ft long with one Gardner 103 HP 6 cyl. diesel engine. What a beauty!

4. The Nordhavn 72 Mighty Mouse is back in. I personally believe, the boat deck is may be a little bid overloaded. More than 2000 kg of tender weight plus craddles and a heavy hydraulic davit. Mighty Mouse also has a crew of two.

Hey, steady-on, I used to do that job sometimes on Leander! Pretty easy actually. The exhausts on the other hand, I left to the deckies to do.
