Quite a few reasonable questions have been asked of the OP at this point with no answers forthcoming. No one can really understand the situation at this point. Boat is for sale? Wants people to campaign it on their own money? What does she mean exactly by that? Wants them to maintain it, so what kind of condition is it in? Confirming it is steel vs. wood. What is the arrangement sought? Captain Bill asked if she was going to spend any of her money on it? Will it still be for sale as if someone sets up charters if that's the plan and then the boat is sold that would put them in a position of liability? Pascal assumes racing and asks if it's race ready? I think if the OP would just respond to some of these legitimate questions or in their own way outline better and disclose what is really going on and what they truly are trying to achieve rather than worry about vapid responses it could get the thread on a constructive path for them. But failing to do so does make one speculate as to what is going on here.
I think the point was to throw the idea out there and then iron out details with any interested party. I doubt the OP was planning on discussing details on a public forum.
I think he accomplished that, but unlike posting a want ad, posting on a forum will bring comment and scrutiny. I think he learned things about the idea and about how to propose it. Actually, with the current resale market his idea isn't completely without merit, but it needs to be thoroughly thought out, and getting advice from a forum (even if it comes in the form of sarcasm). He certainly now knows that he does need to put more information in his postings for this.
The OP stated: "Open to discussion." not "PM me". That to me at least that might indicate she/he assumed at least some of the discussion would take place here in the open. I think perhaps she/he felt attacked and ganged up on and simply left. To bad. The details might have been interesting.
I still need to come up with the funds to replace (probably sooner rather than later) the heat exchanger on my port engine, now that the starboard side has crapped out and is in the process of getting replaced. Would any of you be willing to pay for that project in return for captaining my boat while I sit in the cockpit sipping margaritas and enjoying the view of the Jersey shoreline? To be fair, I am willing to pilot the boat once in a while as long as you take over if the Coast Guard approaches and definitely when it's time to back into my narrow slip and dock the boat. (Yes, I realize the "vapid remark" segment of this thread is probably played out, but I just caught this thread so please indulge me a little. I've had a rough week.)
Sure, I could use a vacation this summer. I'll even pay for the fuel and bring along a dozen or so of my neighbors so you'll have some free entertainment as well as a keg for you and them in case you get thirsty!
Now see....! Capt J is the kind of boater that makes me so happy I got into this awesome new hobby where every other week or so I get to spend a couple thousand dollars for parts I only barely understand the function of and a labor rate that starts (I am NOT kidding here) from the time the mechanic LEAVES HIS SHOP to come to my boat to the TIME HE GETS HOME. The fact I have now spent, to "freshen her up" (the boat not my beautiful wife) at LEAST in equal shares what I paid for my boat in the first place doesn't really bother me all that much. What "bothers" me is that there doesn't seem to be more guys like Capt J.....guys who understand THEY should be paying for all my repairs and upgrades and yes, even the fuel. (And yes, the BEER TOO....why not???) Anyway......thanks for the laugh....I really needed it. Gotta go.........I have to go rob a liquor store to get the funds for the other HE!
DAMMIT, you guys scared her off. I really wanted to hear the sordid details. Next time act as if we are taking the bait.
Well, I've never been accused of being the smartest guy on the block. But me and my PHD had to look up Vapid. Good $5 dollar word.
It was a new word to me too. I'll use if appropriate in a YF yacht review, but then if appropriate, it might not be a boat that makes it onto the forum. Judy
Boat A was charming, even inspiring, as it was alive with color and spirit unlike some of it's competition which has become old, bland and somewhat vapid.
Guessing you were referencing the contents of its wine cooler. P.S.- The Latin origins of vapid are vapidus and vappa. P.P.S.- Perhaps the OP thinks of Forum responders as banal dipsomaniacs. P.P.P.S.- Captain Jack Sparrow = Why is the rum always gone?
