Well I just sold my 1988 46 Post and have a contract pending survey on a 2001 50 with Cats. Any one have any performance data on the Cats?
Which Cats and HP. I'd take the CATS over the MAN's just for ease and cheapness of maintanence. I ran a 50' Post with 820hp Man's and the boat cruised around 27 knots with a hardtop and I think it burned right around 50gph.
I like the 34 stuff. I would really like to hear more on how she runs myself. Keep us up on you new ship. Ran some 3412s and one 3406. Really liked them (except for that D#$% Sherweird water pump). 71s still rule. ,rc
Ave Maria, On the lower right hand side of your keyboard is a key with two emblems. One is a "greater than" sign ( > ) and the other is a dot ( . ) Some folks call this a 'period' and they are often used to end a sentence. People that use this key often get a better response from our members because their posts are more legible. I punctuated your first post, then noticed that all 15 of your posts lack any punctuation.
Wow I feel like I am back in college, this is the first time I have been critiqued on my punctuation on a forum web site, maybe someone has a period problem . I will try to do better in the future ...............
AM, don't feel bad. I did not notice. please keep up posted on your new Post. lots of luck to you. RT
Well, my wife the ex teacher always wants to jump in and correct but resists. Although right now I am having to hold on to the tablet and hold her down so she can't get hers. Good thing she's tired or she'd break free and do it. But we should have been asleep 4 hours ago and something else came up. And Carl was only posting to try to assist you in getting maximum responses, not as a punctuation czar. Run on sentences tend to lose readers. If I know Carl, he probably has research on that even.
Back to the topic at hand, I am new to my boat, but basically the same package as you; 3406e's in a '02 50'. I see a light cruise at 1950 rpms, yielding 25kts and 56gph. Based off the CAT displays. on the pins, it was 32 its, forget the gph. Overall, in the 30 hrs or so I have put on the boat so far, I really like the engines. Very low to no soot, low smoke, almost no diesel smell. All the filters changed out quite easily, and the people at RingPower in Tampa were very thorough during the sea trial. Best of Luck with it. and yes, if anyone was thinking of it, I did figure out the ~blanking~ washing machine. Although I do have a blown fitting on it, but thats another story.
Pt Jude thank you for the info. What is max R.P.M. for your boat. I am going to sea trial next week and would like to have as much info as possible.
I believe that it's 2350 if I'm not mistaken. I would strongly recommend you get all the service records on the engines, as well as have a CAT tech on board for the trial. He will run all the diagnostics on the engines as well as work a proper sea trial with the captain. Sea trials are tough. The draw of a shiny new to you boat, all the things to inspect. Best to leave the mechanicals to an expert. And also, they go by way too fast! Be sure to take your time and really feel out the boat. Varying speeds, seas, drift a bit. Think of what you normally do with your boat and recreate that.
Some of the best advice you can get. Read it again right before your test ride. So many folks forget why they are shopping for a boat. It's 'spose to be a relaxing platform. Speed and gadgets are cool too, but if you are not comfortable and rolling with a smile, Ya need to keep looking. On a Big Post 50, I sure big smiles,, but it is up to you. Keep us up and good times, rc
Great advice Thanks ! We do have the local Cat dealer set up and hull survey scheduled for next Tues as well. I totally agree speed and gadget's are cool but being comfortable is most important and the 50 sure look's and feel comfortable Will let you know how we do
Thank's for asking, yes we did purchase the boat, closed late May and brought her home Memorial Day. We just spent 9 days doing some local cruising and we are really excited, the boat is awesome !
