Post 43 Cruise Speed?

    Going into a survey, what ballpark cruise should I reasonably expect from a 1986 Post 43 with 671s at 450hp each? The broker's info claims 21 knots at 2,050 RPM, WOT 27 knots, unknown RPM.

    Thanks for any information!

    I bet those numbers are pretty close, maybe a slight bit high, but on or close....

    The 450/485 hp 671 spins max at 2500 rpm. 80% or 2000 rpm would be ideal cruise if the bow stays down at that speed.
    I recommend not cruising past 2200. Somewhere in between 2000 to 2200 you should find a nice ride 14 to 18 gph, each..
    Max cruise rpm at 2250 or 90% throttle pushes the duty cycle pretty hard..

    Here is what I get with my 84 43 with the same HP: 2000 = 20-21, 2100 = 22-23, 2500 = 27-28 knots. Obvious things like how much weight has been added, condition of bottom and running gear, tuna tower will all work to slow it down.

    Just for reference, I'm running 3 blade Nibral 24x25 cupped props.

    The boat went into foreclosure before we could move ahead with a survey so we backed out. Still on the hunt for our next boat!

    I am. Just looked at one here in FL. I want to make an offer but I'm hoping my boat sells first. Quickly. I don't want to be a two boat owner but I hope mine sells before the Post does:)

    Ya know what bank? Banks broker? Could be a new deal if you can stay in touch with the note holder.
    Sadly, repossessed boats have been popping up a lil more often. Of courses the lending institution still does not want to give anything away, but if she was in decent shape, could withstand some rough storage, could still be a bargain for those with patience and cash.

    I agree, then only thing I don't like about my 46 Post is that it is not a 50 Post.

    My next boat will be a 50 Post.

    I put a contract on a 1984 43 Post with DD 6-71TIs (450s).
    Survey next week.

    I know this is OT but do you guys know how many Post 43s were built? They seem to be far less common than the 42. Looking at this particular forum I think I would be lucky to find even a handful of 43 owners. Just curious...

    I am not sure how many 43s were made, but the 43 is considered an improvement from the early 42s.
    I think that the 44 was the smallest production run that came after the 43.

    The early 42s should not be confused with the later 42s.

    The later 42s had the all the improvements of the 43s.
