Hi everybody,I am buying a Fleming 65 motor trawler on which most people in Europe would have a Rib as a tender. I would like to be able to fish from my tender as well as use it for the usual tender duties. I'm fearful of fish hooks with a rib ,and also children with fish hooks on a rib which is most likely. Could anybody suggest an alternative GRP/Fiberglass boat I could use for this purpose. Regards and thanks.
Boston Whalers are now really expensive and , personal opinion here, not worth the money today. Have a look a Dell Quay, very similar. Used in many Marinas by the staff, so almost child-proof. Fletcher Showroom - Classic - Dell Quay Dory Fish

Boston Whaler. Unsinkable, solid boat, more interior room than the same size RIB. On a 65', you can probably fit a 13' Sport.
This is bit funny. When I read the post the first thing that came into my mind was Boston Whaler. Then saw the other responses. It would seem Boston Whaler might be pretty unanimous. I've had a couple of Boston Whalers in my life and I'd have to say they are probably one of the best boats in their size for sure. When I was in Panama last year there was a 140 footer with a beautiful 18' Boston Whaler as one of their tenders. All on board were enjoying it very much. I really admired it as well. Given your concerns, it would seem a Boston Whaler might be strongly considered. And no, I do not work for Boston Whaler!
According to a listing on the Internet: Should accommodate a 15 ft. Whaler. http://www.bostonwhaler.com/Page.aspx/pageId/29592/pmid/323824/150-Montauk.aspx
Would need to carefully consider weight as a 15' with a 90 hp Yamaha would weigh approximately 1200 pounds without gear or fuel and the standard davit is only 1500 lbs. That is only about 100 pounds more than the Novarania but at that point each 100 pounds does add up. Still, if it would handle it a 15' would be the way to go.
Yes, and in Europe a lightly loaded 15 is now $40 -45,000 for a tender. That to me is getting pricey.
Costs of tender If this includes the outboard engine, it seems quite reasonable compared to a 15 ft Williams 445 diesel RIB with a price tag (in Europe) of about 110.000,00 $ (VAT not included !), as seen in Düsseldorf this year . But still expensive for just 15 ft of plastic fantastic.
Go with the Boston Whaler. I have used mine extensively while I had the bigger boat and kept it after selling that boat and it was fun to have while waiting for the next boat. Still use her often. A truly bulletproof utility, fishing, safety and fun boat.
Costs of tenders Yes, I know. I just wanted to explain that the term expensive might be relative . And I agree, fishing with rod and fishhook out of a rubber boat can be a bad idea, if things go less than ideal. Also being priced on the higher side, a 15 ft Boston Whaler would be my 1st choice too. If that 65 ft boat can take the top weight of the steelhead davit and the tender, I would go for it.
If you don't want pricey, you shouldn't own a yacht!!!! They're not that expensive here.....about half that for a 15' or less.
Are you going to tow it or stow it on deck? How you tow/stow it can significantly impact what kind of and size of boat you get.

Those prices are fair for a boat that size and quality and compared to the same size RIB an outright steal with a lot longer longevity and much easier maintanence. LOL
Towing& pre-owned. Don't be concerned with second hand when it comes to BW's. An older boat with a new engine is as good as new. As for lifting, that is the negative side of these heavy, solid boats. In a small swell and wind the pendulum effect can have you running to save gel coat and railings. Best to tow when going on short trips or anchorage to anchorage and lift for longer hauls.
