I would love to see what some other Post owners have done as far as upgrading their T.V's to the Stero systems on board their boats. looking to replace my old style t.v's with flat screens.
I put the thinnest 47" LED Flatscreen I could find at that time, in front of the original wall and made a (removable) frame around it. I connected the TV with the flattest system I could find, the OmniMount OMF Mounting system (cheap on Ebay)
On the audio side, I bought a not yet installed RV all-in-one system from JENSEN, AWM975 Wall mount Stereo, and its AM/FM/CD/DVD/USB/WB/iPOD Ready! Maybe I need an extra amplifier for the Kicker subwoofer And the other speakers still needs to be decided
P46 just a warning on those Jensen ALL IN ONE stereo's, we have replaced a bunch of those in the RV repair shops I run. Be prepared to replace at least once maybe more. Just an FYI.
P-46 LOVE the Big screen. My 46 has the table right there in fornt of the TV so I do not have the room to add one like that but boy does that look GREAT !! Have been looking at a sound bar to go on top of the little shelf above the TV.
I still have the vintage OEM tube TV in the cutout in my 46 Post. pretty soon I will see an episode of Pickers going through someone's junk buying a TV like the one on my Post. ITs gotta go soon! I also have the original fridge freezer which is still working, that has to go soon because it is o 80's.....
Pictures are a little outdated, but almost finished with corian tops everywhere and new carpet on the floors, new carpet at the side walls and new ceilings, new furniture, so within 2/3 weeks, I will show you all around
tv's and stereo's Kubu, I went with a Samsung 32" in the salon of my 46 Post, I also used a Samsung 5.1 surround sound with blue ray player. I included a pic of the install which was fairly easy and looks pretty close to factory it was simple to re-route the a/c vents for the install. I also used IR remote's so all the boxes(sat tv and blue ray player) are hidden. Awesome sound, it has an ipod docking station, gets am/fm stations and also plays dvd's/cd's, it also gets wifi and netflix it is a great system. For my sound system(12 volt) for outside and throughout the boat (each stateroom, the salon, the bridge and the cockpit) I am installing the fusion IP700, you can put the main head unit wherever you choose and have 4 independent controllers all over the boat, it is compatible with many different marine electronics including gps systems and even Bennett trim tabs.
Ruby, do you have any pictures of how you mounted the tv prior to the final installation? It looks awesome. How about the master stateroom have you done anything special in there?
Kubu, the tv is mounted on angle iron that was bought at Home Depot, it was cut and screwed directly into the wood under the tv and above the tv, and the tv was screwed to that. Then teak mouldings were made to hold the tv tight. If you measure properly the tv a 32" Samsung LED fits perfectly. I did Post many pics of my boat on the forum, including shots of the master stateroom. The shelf in the master stateroom came covered with carpet from the factory and also had the mirrored plexi on the wall/bulkhead of the anchor locker, we did make a teak panel to fit the bulkhead and the shelf along side the bed or side walls are now covered in a white material similar to starboard or azak.
Kubu, I did neglect to mention that we joined the doors to the compartment next to the tv, they appear just like the factory doors but open to the starboard side now. The doors were glued and biscuited after a quarter inch was removed, the original hinges and closing mechanism is still used. I felt it awkward having one door open to the left and one door opening to the right, it always seemed in the way when you opened the doors- not anymore
I don't have any pics to show but I mounted a 50" SONY LED near the dinette on my 56 where the 32" JVC was hidden behind 2 doors. I mounted the TV to a full motion mount that give me access to the space where the old 32" tube TV was. Great big storage space now. Thinking of putting a wine refridge in there. Mated the TV to a Marantz 1604 A/V receiver that transmits the HDMI video and audio wireless via a IOGEAR Digital TV sender and receiver. Sound is the stock Bose 5.1 setup that came with the boat. The Sony Smart TV is connected via wifi to my Cradlepoint router getting access to the internet via a Verizon 4G LTE aircard. The Marantz outputs to a second zone of speakers in the master stateroom. Marantz can be controlled via iPhone or iPad, Android as well.
Post 50 TV's Master stateroom flatscreen and custom drawer. UPS and Directv DVR behind. UPS holds DVR and tuner info when switching from genset to dock power. Salon Flatscreen with soundbar on top and UPS and Directv DVR in back along with a lot of storage. Used 12V hatch pistons with a 120V to 12V converter. I can reach into cabinet from both sides and pull pins if pistons fail.
Here is a pic of our set up, still the smaller TV although updated to flat screen HDTV. keeps the wood effect. Still have a tape to tape receiver and stereo that needs some updating
Coastalgeorge, what size and brand tv did you use. Looks like min. amount of wood work would have to be done and I like the thoughts of that. I love all the pictures of the larger screens but that entails more than I think I am ready to take on at this point in the game.
I am ashamed to say I need to measure that for you, shucks I'm just gonna have to stop by the boat tonight! and yes the wood work was just a panel to refit the area. I did not do the work, it was from the previous owner. also I am guessing that the TV is 21/22". Note that leaves the a/c duct in same spot.
kubu, it was really easy to install my 32 inch Samsung tv into the factory space. First of all if my memory serves me, the Samsung last 4 numbers of the model was 4003 it is a 780P 32 inch. If you are looking at the opening after you remove the tv the left side was not touched at all. I simply used a straight edge cut the bottom of the opening past the area where the factory tv ledge(to the right- towards where the a/c vent was) that unscrews with the two wood screws. I did remove the shelves in the compartment to the right and reworked it. I also joined the doors to that compartment together after removing approximately 1/4-1/2 inch off the doors. I don't have the exact measurements as it is not fresh in my mind. Anyway your tv is basically your guide or jig to make the area fit the tv, the moulding on top of that area will need to be removed temporarily. It is held in by a few really small nails, work it carefully and you will not damage it. I decided to use the wedge vent for the a/c others have simply re - used the a/c vent section and put it in the right hand corner. In any event I used 1/4 round mouldings around the sides and bottom of the tv, the top moulding is the factory one.
Ruby, I love the way it looks and would love not to have the air blast on us when we are eating. Maybe I could get the nerve up to give it a try !!
Oh did I mention that I had used a small hand saw to remove the wood that needed to be cut out of the way. It was a simple job and while I was there we did replace all the a/c flex vent hoses.
Hi All, I wanted to get this thread rolling again especially with anyone who has any updates on their TV projects or some new TV projects / ideas. The picture below is of my current setup. I want to replace the TV in the same spot, but there are not any with similar dimensions. (Current TV is not HD). I would like to go larger, but I also do not want to destroy the cabinet because the wood is so nice looking. A 24 inch will fit horizontally, but leave about a 1 inch or so gap on the top and bottom. a 28 inch will fit vertically, but over lack about 3/4 inch on each size horizontally. I was thinking about just getting a telescoping mount (which I would mount inside) and basically have the TV sit flush against the cabinet by pushing the mount back into the cabinet... but that leaves the TV sticking out of the cabinet and might not look so nice. Love to hear some opinions.
