    I call the Bahamas "the unfinished islands". Indeed, projects start, with big hopes and big plans and are rarely finished. Sometimes they even leave the bulldozers to rust away...

    Speaking of abandoned facilities, the Caribbean marine research center on Lee Stocking has been abandoned for a year or so. There is still equipment like boats on trailers, appliances, office equipment left behind...

    Have you been to the Abacos lately?

    Besides, there is only one "slip" at the Decca station marina. :)

    But you're right of course, things change pretty slowly in the Bahamas. In many cases they go backwards. There are less resorts on Eleuthera now than when I first started going there in the mid 70s.

    I assume that means that the Abacos are crowded? Everywhere, or just Hope Town. Haven't been up there in a long while - too long.

    Crowed might be over stating it. But not by much. In my opinion the Abacos have become a suburb of South Florida.

    Even though i ve only been to the abacos a couple of times, i can't say that I was that impressed. From So FL south of WPB the distance to the abacos is about the same as the Exumas so it s a no brained. From north of WPB, it s 60 or 70 miles shorter which really isn't that much.

    Winter weather is also a lot better further south. First, crossing windows are bigger and the fronts arent as strong.

    Many Cruisers spend the winter there as it has advantages if you stay a while with more supplies than the Exumas
