I'm hoping somebody can give me a brief education here.

I've been watching the Fort Lauderdale webcam over the last few days. I watched Seven Seas motor smartly past the 17th street bridge and maneuver cleanly to the seawall under her own helm control. Abut the same time I saw Pegasus being dragged backwards via 3 tugs through the bridge opening.

Earlier today I saw Pegasus return... meet up with the 3 tugs again.... and proceed through the bridge.

Is the use of the "tugs" a personal preference on the part of the captain.. or are there other factors differentiating the way these two ships are handled?

    Thanks!

I think that is a good question, any FL residents here that can add valuable information on this, I too would like to know.

    Hi,

I have seen Pegasus manoeuvre in tight quarters before so I assume it either has some problems with some of its gear - engine or thruster or maybe there is a relief Captain who was erring on the side of caution and asked for tug assistance.

My little boat has been up and down the new river a bunch on her own. The last move my captain wanted to use a tug. The reason was that there was lots of traffic and we had to be out of are space early in the morning and at that time there was a strong current. I agreed with captain to pay a little tow bill then have a possible accident. (during boat show move day)

The use of tugs in Fort Lauderdale is the preference of the captain and owner. There are no regulations requiring the use of tugs here although I have heard that in certain situations insurance companies require the use of tugs. This is particularly true with navigating the narrow and twisting New River from the Intracoastal West to the many yacht service yards and marinas about 5 miles upstream.

Take a look at this video and you might understand why many captains do decide to err of the side of caution.

Actually, Joseph Campbell helped Lucas interpret an amalgam of mythological heroic journeys into the one that became Star Wars. Lucas, unlike Spielberg on some of his projects, has never been so bold as to suggest it was his own.

The portevergladeswebcam caught Seven Seas as she left Fort Lauderdale this afternoon.

The pilot boat is passing her on starboard just after picking up the pilot from her swim platform.

Was she towing a tender behind, I think I can make out two tow lines in the webcam grabs.

According to a report a couple of weeks ago in The Times [London], she is heading for Europe where she will be met by the owner and his wife for the start of a world cruise, visiting some of the sites where his films were made.

But AIS has her heading into the Caribbean.

She is a beautiful boat! The square angles work very well on her overall.

Some day, in the future, she will be parked at Dania Cut. ;)

Of course, empty dock space is a pipe dream.

Wonder who will become the new "wall", in your lunch routine? :D

"Seven Seas" is reported to be for sale because the owner is building a 90+ meter?
