This may not be the proper forum for this post, but there is lots of legalese being spoken here, so maybe as good a spot as any. I am considering the purchase of a 44' Striker sportfisher, and just found out that they are not made in the USA. Does this mean that it cannot charter? I thought that uninspected vessels did not have to meet this requirement, but the opinion on the dock is otherwise. Can anyone set me straight on this?
You can run charters on foreign built boats as non inspected 6 pax max. If the charterer contracts the crew separately under a different contract paid separately they can bring up to 12 guests total (bareboat charter) That's on the mainland, I would assume the rules are the same in Hawaii
Thanks for the quick reply, and I'm sure the rules are the same, as Hawaii is one of the 50 States, CFR's same as anywhere.
It should be unless there are local regs more strict than CFRs but it shouldn't affect where the boat is built
Local regs here are pretty lax, and enforcement rare. CG boardings are infrequent. Presumably they have bigger fish to fry, what with a huge military presence and many miles of ocean to keep track of, foreign fishing fleets, etc. I visit and fish on the east coast frequently, it is quite a contrast!
