Hello everybody, I have to decide wich boat I will by, all boats are from 1997-2001. What do you generally thinking about these boats. Azimut has caterpillar the other Volvo engines. All have three cabins, two toilets. Wich one you would prefer in quality, stability and price of reselling?? Thank you Norbert
I've understood that one should avoid boats with TAMD 72s, unfortunately this rules out many nice boats from late 90's
Yes, volvo has many very reliable inboard diesels but this particular model has not lived up to this repotation. I beleive the problems are related to improper cooling system design and internal corrosion in the heat exchangers and intercoolers. There seems to be many boats around with this engine so I guess the issues are somehow managable however with a high maintanence bill.
on the resale side I would go in this order; - Azimut 46 (sells easy if with 3 cabins version) - Princess 460 (altough a very old boat) - Astondoa 46 (this is has best 3 cabins layouts too)
I had a boat that I managed with those engines, they had low hours around 650 hours, and mysteriously they both started running hot around a month of each other. We chased it and chased it and never could get them to run cool again. We did thermostats, coolant, heat exchangers, tranny coolers, aftercoolers and anything we could think of, but nothing worked, the owner ended up donating the boat to a charity.
