Has anyone visited or moored up in the new Marina in Imperia on the Ligurian coast of NW Italy? - I understand that although the infrastructure has a way to go before its all up and running , the moorings are finished and a number of boats are already based there. I'm considering keeping my boat in Imperia and hope to hear from anyone who's been there

Thanks - I understand the moorings are up and running even if the infrastructure ie fuel dock, restaurants shops etc are not. I'd be interested to know if it will be an attractive and efficient marina to keep my 62 ft vintage 1961 Feadship and also if the town itself has charm. Some pics would be great if your client has a free moment (FYI my berth will be in the long dock in the centre of the marina at the left of the capitainerie.)

I was there in Oct. 2011 tied up on the sea wall where the restaurants and shops run along. They seemed completely set up and running to me. I had shore power, water and beautiful Italian women walking past the aft deck. Life was good.
There is a big spaghetti/pasta factory there on the corner. I went to the local grocery store and bought some of there pasta and I swear it was the best spaghetti I ever had and just for a Euro per bag!

HAHA! I hear you! Well some what yachting related maybe, but on the dock behind us there was a magazine stand and I took this picture of this model posted in the window because I felt it showed the real natural beauty of an Italian women.

The pictures are from us entering the old port which is east of the newer facility. I am disappointed that I did not get the opportunity to venture over there to see if the Italian women might be any more beautiful on that side of town HA! But the old port area was very nice with nice shopping areas, people seeing and things going on.
Note: Do not go to the night club bar on the wharf there and ask them to make you a local powerful mix drink that you never had before. I do not exactly remember why, but I do remember thinking it sounded like a good idea at the time HA!

I wish I had a memory of Imperia but I woke up in the hospital there after a good night out.

It was San Remo boatshow time.

The Fiat Uno I was driving at 4am, going back to France, had a little sleep while I was hurtling through the tunnels along the coast road to get home for breakfast. It kissed a small Fiat 600 estate wagon at about 2mph (as was told to the police) The poor thing was not too well on it's rear end but my Uno had my face pushed through the glass windshield. Little bits of glass still come out of my forehead when I sweat.

So this week I acquired a Fiat Uno for Group F racing.

    What is Group F class?

You get one for f**k-all and spend no money on it, on the beach; outside my apartment every other weekend.

A 1990 22,000 mile schoolteachers car with almost all 999cc working in sync. :)

    Hey boys,

I'm a little disappointed. I have a client that I was sending to this thread to post information after his visit to Imperia this week. I don't want to introduce a client to YF by way of a mixture of information and sleaze.

Im sorry that the banter offended you- it was inappropriate for a forum but it just a bunch of 'boys" trying to be amusing. In any event, as you feel uncomfortable about sending your client to the posts, could you send me a private message about the new marina ?

    Hi David,

I have just seen this thread and hope I can help. I'm based for a UK shipyard down here in Italy and use the Marina Porto Maurizio a fair bit. It has a growing infrastructure including one of the best fabrication/engineering/hydraulic contractors on this entire coast based locally in the town, there good paint people and also the little yard in the corner I have heard is good, (plus English speaking director). The town itself (Porto Maurizio) is also a fantastic example of a old Italian centro Storico, there is a great beach and as a bonus it can hold a surfable wave up to about 5' (super rare). Happy to field more questions if you have them, also as a shipyard we have a glorious history in pulling apart old Feadships, so feel free to ask if you have any issues.

As a foot note I would chose Porto Maurizio as a place to live for the me and my family if I didnt have to be in France so much, (I live 1/2 an hour closer to the border). Its obviously next to Imperia with all its attributes as previously mentioned, but has its own mainline train station for access and a very relaxed feel.

    Hi
thanks for responding - on the back of what you've said in the post I've just booked my Porto Maurizio berth from July . Ive tried finding an affordable priced berth in a nice small French town near Nice without success ...my ideal would have been Beaulieu (as a schoolboy in the 1960s I used to do a summer exchange with a family in Beaulieu and I remember the marina being built and lying virtually empty for over 2 years - o tempora o mores.....!), but they dont have any berths available and had they done so it would have been double the rate of Imperia. I'd be interested to know what yard you are with if for no other reason that my boat is an 18mt 1960 Feadship that we've just rebuilt in Norfolk and it would be nice to know who to turn to for local advice (and Im sure she will need work done in the next couple years when things start to fall apart..)
