    A sign of these not so good times... most marine related businesses are hanging on for dear life. I'm concerned we're going to see "the other shoe drop" on this economy in 2012... and it's not gonna be pretty.

    I'm astounded that they could be doing so bad considering they have a 4000t drydock capable of lifting vessels up to 400'. You would think they could survive just on the commercial work alone.

    I agree, there are not too many yards up that way capable of lifting really big yachts and ships.......

    increased overheads, increased regulations esp. EPA, increased taxes, stepped up tax enforcement on boats in CT, increased labor costs and regulations, skyrocketing healthcare costs... none of which encourage growth but instead encourage business to pull back to weather the storm.

    Agreed. Still, I thought the commercial work would have had them booked year round. Regardless though, it's not like Derecktor is going out of business, they're just downsizing.

    Just downsizing because at this point with all the problems I listed (and more...) it is no longer worth it for a business, any business, to try to break even and avoid downsizing and layoff

    Where is the incentive? Being called "a private jet riding fat cat" on the 8pm TV sound bite?
