what do you guys think about a yachtforums app for iPhones and droids? An app which lets us check private messages, our posts etc? I know we can technically do everything through the internet but with small screens it is much harder then if we had a dedicated app. What do the forum moderators think of the idea?
I do all that already just using the browser on my iPhone... I even have the ability to moderate threads. Sure the font is small, but held sideways I can read everything I need to. Also, vBulletin is compatible with Tapatalk (as are pretty much all forums) so you could use that to browse YF.com as well.
well as i said in my original post, everything can be done through internet browser. However an app is more user friendly for smart phones. I use ebay a lot and their app is much easier to use then going on through internet explorer. Anyhow this was just a thought i had.
I have not tried it yet. My understanding was there was a forum setting for tapatalk that had to be applied. If it would work I would certainly try the app.
TapTalk is the leader of the pack. If you visit the forum on your device, it will notify you that taptalk is available and ask / try to use it. Or you can open taptalk, then enter the url and view the forum through taptalk that way. It works quite well. If you don't like that, then any browser.
The Forum don't has the Plugin or the Code for tapatalk. I can't find it in the tapatalk search Funktion. I use it with another Forum and can say the App is very good.
I haven't looked into mobile apps for YF, the apps I've seen (so far) don't allow you to expand the screen, a necessary feature for many of our 'senior' members, myself included. On a separate note, due to several postponed sea trials, I've set aside reviews this month (and last month) to focus on a much bigger project that will compliment YF. More details when we're ready to launch.
A mobile version might be nice. When I bring up YF on my Blackberry I have to enlarge it a couple of times. The mobile version most likely won't have the banners like the normal website so there might be a sponsorship issue to consider. Mike
TAPATALK is very, very good, but I think the moderators might need to do something to enable it. Like several others, I could not locate Yacht Forums in tapatalk. I have not figured out how to do things like send "REP" or "like" a post in tapatalk, but that seems minor. And, hello to all from the new guy in freezing Wisconsin. Steve
Any news on the mobile version of this forum. Most of the forums seem to be on Tapatalk now, makes posting and browsing much easier.
No plans for Tapatalk. I'm not a fan of apps that don't allow screen enlargement, but I'm more concerned with amount of custom codework underlying YF. It doesn't play well with others, none-the-less simple vB upgrades. We're right in the middle of coding nightmare anyhow, trying to cross-platform JF to XenForo. If we can figure out a way to make it work, YF is next. Besides, as mobile devices grow in size, I think it will negate the need for such apps.
I really think Tapatalk is needed. I use it for all the forums I access and it's very useful to be able to quickly post on different forums quickly switching from one to another. I also believe it will increase your membership levels. I ha be Tapatalk installed on my forum and it was very easy to do. If a user wishes to enlarge the screen on Tapatalk for some reason they simply need to click the top right button and press "view in web browser" and that particular page will be loaded in their web browser on their device. I tried to view the yacht forums on my iPhone and it's a nightmare, so had is the usability in fact that I would say it's basically incompatible with an iPhone. I am not going to get a bigger phone. Please consider tapatalk, it's very easy to instal the plug in providing your forums is compatible. Seems like your using the same forums system that the rolex forums uses and they have integrated with Tapatalk so shouldn't be hard for the yacht forums.
Hi, Amazing, sign up and ask for some advice then start telling us we are not viewing the forum the way you like it. Spend some time here and contribute something useful before rubbishing the current setup.
I signed up ages ago and only just recently posted. Partly because I am unable to view the forum comfortably on a mobile and I am mobile most of the time. Apologies if you were offended by my comment. I wasn't criticising for the sake of criticising, I genuinely believe that tapatalk would be a good improvement.
Do you know how many security issues there have been with Tapatalk? Do you know the security issues vBulletin has? Do you know anything about the complex coding of this site in addition to the basic vBulletin? Did you read the part about the planned migration away from vBulletin? The owner of the site answered the question. Now you feel it's needed. Well, guess you'll have to purchase the site then so you can make that decision. You say you've signed up long ago (well you didn't sign up long ago, only April) but now you've posted on the safety of crossing the Black Sea and the imperative of adding Tapatalk in spite of the owner answering his reasons for not doing so. As to your iPhone issues, I can't speak to them. I use various Samsung Androids and Windows based phones and have no problems using the site through a web browser. It works great for me with all features working. I also think Tapatalk is a pervasive annoyance I would never use on any of my phones. I find it offensive that once a site installs Tapatalk then anytime one visits by mobile the first time, they get a pop up telling them they can use Tapatalk. I don't know what your interest is in Tapatalk but to come to a site and start arguing as to why you don't like it is inappropriate. If you wanted to discreetly bring the issue to the owner you could have messaged privately. If you wanted to just be a disruption, you found the way.
Yea that pop up is quite annoying, but it can be easily disabled. If tapatalk was installed it wouldn't negatively affect any users that didn't wish to use it. Anyway, I was just voicing my opinions, I thought it was an open forum for discussions. I think my comments have been interpreted incorrectly as an attack against the forum, this was not the case. I was merely commenting that for me personally I think a tapatalk integration would be an improvement. I am not trying to create arguments with anyone or make enemies, or to be attacked for making a suggestion. From now on though I won't comment about tapatalk because obviously it's not welcomed. Once again apologies if I have done something out of line.
