    Really? I thought closer to $250k at least if not more and that's if there isn't more damage other than the obvious. I wonder if the owner was told of this incident?

    Where's the Beef ???

    I've owned an 80 & an 86s and have never been impressed with Azimut's hull integrity. Prop turbulence can weaken the hull on V or direct-drives. Not an issue with Arnesons', however I witnesses these units too being ripped right out of a transom. Not much assurance in these gentle beasts.

    Well, a boatyard did the damage and likely would be doing the repairs (at their cost basis), it might be more actually probably will be......., but it appears the struts and rudders are integerally sound, the hull gave away instead of them. I think $250k might be a little on the high side......who knows.

    I know we are talking about the cost of repair - but their insurers may also be liable for providing a charter whilst this work is done and some compensation. Plus the long term damage to the yards reputation means the overall total cost may well be very much higher.

    My understanding is that insurance won't cover the damage history disclosure that will affect the lowered resale value.

    Considering the yard that it happened in, I'd be really surprised if they had insurance.

    Even top-tier yards have dropped a boat or two. Stuff happens.

    Somewhat shocking, however, is Affrayedknot's photo of the strut palm's delivery into the innards--either the strut backing block, usually a big honkin' plank of mahogany overfitted with a bronze plate acting as a large washer, was missing... or maybe it was made of lesser materials like cheese pizza.

    Shoulda used pepperoni.

    WOW - when I saw that I saw all the way forward into the engine room. I would be surprised if the engines are still sitting on their beds!

    Should there be a stringer near the strut? Something to support the strut kind of like a column being located over foundation in a building? There has to be a strut located near by which i would think is also cracked?

    A strut backing block laminated to the hull over the strut palm is considered good boat building practice. Also, see post #13.

    How high was she when dropped?
    Looking at the damage, I think Loren has it right when describing the hull as "pizza"!
    Work out the hieght dropped and force needed to hole the hull and then imagine the boat hitting a sand bank or some underwater flotsam to do the same damge out at sea! Even the prop blades have cut into the hull rather than bend.

    Looks like a boat built for a flashy condo or marina party boat!

    i'd love to see a close up of the hull where the strut was attached as it doesn't seem very thick on those pics.

    rememeber the thread a few months back about severe structural issues on a 68 mutt? there was a link to a PDf with some scary pictures...

    I'm pretty sure it's the Miami River based on the condo's so close in the background.
