Just found this site and thought I would register, great info. I'll throw my hat into the ring and say AIR. Not to keen on her looks, but would like to know more about the future generations of engines
Guys, Your answers have been forwarded to Lurssen. I'll let you know when I hear back from them. Carl
Well guys... you made it happen! Lurssen is allowing us to feature BOTH "Queen M" and AIR". Thanks to everyone!
It's a walk-through review with extensive photographs and documentation behind the build. Much like the other stories that are featured on the front page of YachtForums... and then archived to each builder's individual forum. By the way, I just received the CD's from Lurssen on Queen M. This thing is GORGEOUS! They've supplied us with more images than we've ever received from a builder. Looking forward to publishing this for everyone. Should have the Queen M feature uploaded in a couple of weeks.
Carl, I don't know if you read or particpated in the Etheral Charrette written up in The Yacht Report (April '05 pg 79). I thought it was a very cool idea and wondered if an on-line Charrette would be something this forum would want to, or could, do. What do you think?
Essentially, YachtForums IS as an online Charrette. This is reason forums have become so widespread and popular... the exchange of ideas resulting in collective knowledge. Actually, this was the fundamental purpose behind the internet to begin with... for universities and research facilities to exchange information on a global basis. And ofcourse, a system for the military to communicate independent of traditional channels. I would certainly like to see more threads that encourage a collaborative effort among members, owners, designers and builders. A good number of them are here already, it's just a matter of getting them off the bench and out on the playing field.
Carl, Will the documentation include layouts of each floor? These are always important to those of us interested in the architectural side of yacht design.
Unfortunately, the images supplied did not include deck lay-outs, although I can request them. On a more positive note... the editorial is almost complete and the images have been re-formatted. I'm basically ready to upload, but I've got to finish another project first. It'll go live shortly.
The Queen is ready to make her YachtForums debut. It took a few hours to upload, but that was easy. With over 50 pictures, it took a few days to write the story and prepare the images. Hope you enjoy the feature! Here's a direct link... http://www.yachtforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=3040 Carl
Very very nice review on the Queen M. Appears she really is a Queen of the oceans judging by her in- and exterior. Just 1 Q though. Looking at the max. number of people on-board Quote ACCOMMODATIONS: Owner : Full width stateroom with lobby, aft on owner deck. Bath room and dressing room en suite. Guest: 2 x double cabins with bathrooms en suite located on main deck 4 x twin cabins with bathrooms en suite located on main deck 2 x single cabins with bathrooms en suite located on lower deck Captain: 1 x double cabin with bath room en suite Crew: 4 x single cabins with bath rooms en suite 8 x double cabins with bath rooms en suite unquote Guests : 14 + 2 for owner = 16 Crew : 20 + Captain and spouse : 22 Meaning the SOLAS rescue boat should be capable of carrying 38 people? I haven't seen it stored anywhere in these pictures. Or they have truley found a way to play "hide-and-seek" or there is something I am missing ... I am sure it is the latter otherwise Queen M wouldn't have been certified for ocean-going trips, was really just wondering since the rescue boat is invisible in these pictures... Or are the suspended inflateable-liferafts on the different decks enough for SOLAS certification ? GReetz, S.
Thanks Speeder! On ownership... that's not something we typically talk about, or publish. Although it is always interesting to learn about successful people, we try to respect the wishes of the owners and the fiduciary agreements that builders have with their customers.
