hello, Im considering purchasing a 64 36 challenger,
Im moving out of my Trojan(fiberglass) and making the plunge to a wood boat., against all the advice of my friends,,lol but I love the wooden boats,
the one Im looking at seems to be in excellent shape and was in the water last year and used regularly. any info would be appreciated. Im not going to spend alot of money on her, and Im pretty good with stuctural stuff, and I figure the old girl will outlive me, (Im 50) so with that said, what can you guys tell me about this boat.

The Chris Craft Challenger of the 1954-1965 period was made in three formats: A 36 foot express, a 36 foot salon, and a 38 foot salon aft cabin. The two available engines were 283 F (2X185hp) and the 327F (2x210hp)

The Challenger was effectively a constellation frame, but was marketed as a budget version of the Connie, with out some of the extras. A 1964 Challenger Express base price was $19,990 dollars. 100 Hulls were made. Some were painted to look like a 36 foot 1965 Constellation, since they were very similiar.

A well built boat, battened fastened hull above the chine, with plank over ply bottom. On any vintage 60's Chris, look for rot around the transom area, as well as superstructure rot around windows and deck joins.
