    Hi Ed, Welcome to YachtForums.

I used to own a 1981 Post 42 with 671ti 450's. Mine did not have the hardtop. She had a bimini instead. She was a knot faster at cruise than the hardtop boats.

I'm going to take a flying guess that your new (to you) boat is the one that was under the fallen shed roof at Georgetown? I saw her a few weeks ago with the crushed hardtop and support structure. My advice would be to abandon the hardtop and have a stainless steel frame built, and a soft top and enclosure. It will be way easier and much less expensive to do.

The 42 Post is a great boat. I would certainly own another one.

Here is a photo of my former boat:

Hi Ed and welcome to YF. No matter what year the boat, she's new to you.
I am curious about something; if you're looking for specs on boat and motors after you purchased, what information did you use to decide on the purchase? Did you have her surveyed? (surveyor may have info for you). What she a buy "as is" boat or did you know the previous owner? I'm sure someone on this site can help you as we do have several Post owners on. Also use the Search function on the site to dig up other info.
    Good luck with it.

    Hi Ed,

    Congrats on the Post.
I am with SeaEric on the soft top.
I am greedy when it comes to giving up a knot or less for the hardtop.
    Good luck with her.

Prolly another $ 5K for the enclosure.
I've got a soft top with EZ2CY on the front panels and also on the 3 panels between the aft hand rails and the bridge deck.
    About 4 yrs old.
    Frame was existing.

    I think it was around $ 7,000.
The EZ2CY drives the price up some but I think it is worth it.

I bought a 1990, Post 44 6 years ago and it is by far the best boat I have owned. I hope you the best of luck with yours. I have a hardtop and it is handy for antennas, radar and GPS. I just had a new enclosure made for $4700.
