Amazing how rocket scientists are terrible at defining the basic stuff and market things clearly

Starlink has recently announced they were going to limit international travel on their most popular roam unlimited plan to 30 consecutive days out of your home country. Problem for folks who cruise more than 30 days in the Bahamas or Caribbean for instance. Note that Europe is considered a single country.

there has been a lot of push back and they just announced a new Personal Maritime plan just $10 more than the $175 Roam unlimited which allows unlimited international travel. A good move which fixes the issue for many boaters.

but, the announcement states it is for “small personal vessels not yachts or commercially operated vessels.” And of course they don’t define what a yacht is… or what small is…

Stay Connected on the Water
Your Starlink has operated at sea in the past year. We have a new plan—Personal Maritime—for people who use Starlink on a vessel and stay on the water for extended periods before returning to their home country.

Your current Roam plan includes coverage in territorial waters, with Ocean Mode as a paid option beyond 12 nautical miles. International use is limited to 30 days at a time outside your registered home country, after which you can return home to continue service. Effective September 27, Ocean Mode will be $6/GB.

If that 30-day limit doesn’t fit how you travel, Personal Maritime may be the better option.

Introducing Personal Maritime
Personal Maritime keeps you connected on the water as you move between countries, without the 30-day Roam travel limit.

• $185/month USD, excluding applicable taxes
• Unlimited data and use in territorial waters worldwide
• Ocean Mode available beyond 12 nautical miles for $6/GB
• No 30-day Roam international travel limit, except in extremely rare cases when required by local regulations

This plan is for small personal vessels—not yachts or commercially operated vessels (including ferries and commercial fishing)—and is not intended for use on land.

To switch to Personal Maritime, you will be asked to provide information about your vessel:

• Vessel name
• Flag state
• Length overall (LOA)
• A unique ID (such as Hull Identification Number, Craft Identification Number, MMSI, or ITU Call Sign)
• A copy of your vessel's Registration Certificate

Update… a new FAQ now mentions a 40’ limit to qualify. Useless for 99% of boaters

LOA seems to vary depending on which customer service agent handles the requests. Judging by discussions on SL groups, some users have been told the 40’ LOA is set, others have been approved with boats up to 56/60.

apparently it’s by « invitation only ». No email no luck.

Yes they need a copy of the registration/documentation

Shouldn’t be too hard to edit the LOA if needed I
Doubt they re going to check online databases

They don’t want the cheap plan to be used by large or commercial boats… that’s why they want proof that it will be used on a smaller vessel.

Looks like Starlink has just raised the max LOA for the new Personal Maritime plan from 50 to 60’
