Excited to be under contract for “Floridita,” the blue-hulled 1997 50 Post for sale in Niceville Fl. Survey is in about a week (7/20).

If anyone has any suggestions particular to this model to have the surveyor look out for let me know. In addition to the hull survey, I also have the man dealer from orange beach coming over to do a mechanical survey.

Our 42 post has been a fantastic boat and we’ll be sad to part with it, but the 50 was what we always wanted even going back to when we were shopping during the COVID insanity and ended up with a 58’ enclosed bridge Viking that was just too much. Owning the post 42 after the 58 Viking really cemented for us that Post builds (or used to anyway) boats the way we like them - robustness, attention to detail, and comfort where it counts without expensive frills and complexities. We also looked at the 50 Hatteras which I loved the idea of, but even with the c18s the engine room was too tight for me at 6’2” and frankly the Hatteras seems like it could fit inside the post. I think the 50 post is going to hit the sweet spot for us in terms of speed, comfort, economy, and sea going abilities.

Fingers crossed the survey goes well - the boat has been almost completely re-done so hopefully things were done right!

Well, I thought it was a done deal a while back.
I was just wondering how you were doing.
    Keep us up. :)

Congrats of the upcoming deal hopefully! I sure do like those 50's! I'm suspecting that since you have a painted hull, the gelcoat issues were repaired. Post started seeing the issues starting with the 1997-year models.

Had the survey and sea trial today. As is probably to be expected for a 30 year old boat, lots of punchlist items coming out of it. Little things like search light not moving and baitwell and ice chipper not working. Some medium things like leaky wobbly rudder posts.

One thing I was blown away by was how fast the boat is. She takes a while to get on plane but once the turbos spool up she really runs. 27 kts was about 1700 rpm, 29.4 kts at 1800 rpm running with the wind, 29.2 kts at 1850 running against the wind. WOT was about 35 kts but only made 2225-2250 rpm with the props scraped clean but “Shark skin” covering shafts. Based on what I’ve seen posted about others performance, and the inability to hit 2300+, I think she may be slightly over propped. Or perhaps the tachs are off a little. Unfortunately i didn’t get a read with a phototach.
