I'm sure you have read of me praising the 3406. Such an underrated engine.
My next luv is the 3412.
With proper maintenance, fresh air coolers AND records of such, you can do no wrong.

I'm in the middle when it comes to Cheoy Lee builds.

That was pretty much my profile as well...I wanted classic lines, at least four staterooms, minimized deck level changes, and under 70-75. It took some time looking at many options, with each tour further refining my search.

My decision came down to a 68' Burger, 1980. She's a wide body house, day head right off the helm, and I rebuilt the forward crew v berth into a VIP stateroom, and still carved an extra birth for a captain or deck hand if ever needed.

It was certainly a project worth the patience. Ive done far more than I ever expected. She's an amazing outcome but required terrific bones and structure along with the classic lines. I think sometimes that I love the project as much as I love the sea.

This was also similar to our situation earlier this year, except that I was happy to entertain a Hatteras or higher end British build. We wanted 3 state rooms with a useable crew quarters for my wife and I, our adult kids, their partners and a few grandkids when they arrive. We went with a 68 ft Viking Princess. The Princess checked our boxes, came with C18s which was important for me as they are considered reliable efficient engines. I want to be able to cruise at 20-22 knts at times but did not need 25-30 knot cruise speeds and the associated fuel burn with the C32s. The 68 is not a problem for my and I to handle, the head sets helped a lot.

The nice thing about the 68 ft range is the engine room is stand up and most of the systems access is quite good. We wanted a fiberglass hull and I have a preference for no coring below the water line.

Ours is a 2006 model year. The boat spent half its life in fresh water, had 1500 hours on properly serviced C18s, and had a major refit (all receipts provided) over the last two years including all new electronics at both helms, all AC compressors and air handlers replaced, soda blast fresh barrier coat and bottom paint, and a ~150K interior refit. The boat is in immaculate condition.
