cat 3116 ta 150hp

    looking at boat with 2 of these cat 3116ta 150 hp any info would be appreciated 2250 hrs

    The 3116 got off to such a bad start.
    Cat did make some better and you will need records to ensure the heads, block, crank issues and heat exchangers were properly resolved and serviced.
    Cat finally came out with the 3126 that had it's own teething issues but were faster resolved.

    Some may say different here but I believe the 3116 could make fair boat moor anchors.

    3116TA at only 150 hp? Is that a typo perhaps? Didn’t realize they came in that low of hp rating? Even if you get comfortable with the history and maintenance of this boat and these engines be aware that resell may be challenging. The reputation of the 3116 will turn away many prospective buyers.

    3116 naturals started around 150HP and were supposed to make 350HP in a T A tune.

    And the naturals were fine engines. The TA's were problems early, as stated previously. If they're truly TA's and only 150....well, there's an issue.....
