Has anyone else taken notice of the very interesting, and highly improbable chain of ownership of the former MY Nabila?

Nabila - ~1980 Bennetti built by Adnan Khashoggi (deceased) - Billionaire, arms dealer, 80's bon vivant extraordinaire, and uncle of recently murdered Saudi journalist, Jamal Khashoggi. Also Dodi Fayed's uncle, for the bonus points.

Nabila moved through the Sultan of Brunei's hands briefly and then became the Trump Princess - We all know who owned it then....

Now Kingdom 5KR is owned by the famous Saudi prince/investor who recently was released from "jail" after a period of reflection and rehabilitation courtesy of the Crown Prince MBS.

Small world & it's getting smaller. That is all. No conspiracy theory to promote.

Nothing new, I watched as she crashed into the cruise ship dock in Charlotte Amalie in 1983 and a few years later put her stern and props in the rocks ashore while docking in Porto Cervo in the late eighties. After all, it is a Benetti and an old one at that.

Most recent crash is unfortunate but seems like Kingdom 5kr has a history of that.. never knew of those one’s previous. I almost forgot about this yacht until I saw this thread.

Would '83 be before Trump? Few years later,, after Trump?

Could all of this be bad luck? Attitude of the owners? Lots of factory issues?

Before Trump, she was purchased and put into refit in Amels in '89-90 and Mr. Trump owned the Amels yard at this juncture so he certainly reaped some owners discount benefits and excellent work when they faired that beast's topsides and superstructure because up to that time she was un-faired in Mercedes Silver and came out of the shipyard beautifully faired and top coated Snow White. The Damen group purchased the yard in '92 or so if my memory serves me.

Trump ownership is 1988 to 91, so yes it was. Kashoggi was (new) 1980 to 88, few months sultan of Brunei, and then after 91 the current owner and his inheritors.

The 1989 Amels refit was according to a BI article commissioned by Trump after his purchase.

One of the reasons Trump got it so cheap while Kashoggi was on trial in New York. All the pipework in the marble bathrooms had rotted-out and needed replacing. The marble had been fitted at the yard in such a way that it couldn't fall off. This would make it's removal really difficult and expensive. It was all matched panels from a single block no longer available.
We moored next to her in Antibes for years.

Probably more to do with Kashoggi financial situation at the time. Trump closed it first for 30 million US$, then got a further one million discount to let go the Nabila name.

The yacht was also the reason Benetti went bankrupt in 1983, as Kashoggi opened a lawsuit every other week, which also included a delay in delivery.
Someone involved in the construction told me, the delay in delivery was also due to Kashoggi always updating the build with new elements during construction and the yard accommodating this.

The yacht cost 100$ million new in 1980, probably much less after the lawsuits. The yacht exterior and shell and machinery was 35$ but the rest was for the interior.

Apart Benetti probably Nabila changed the way new build contracts where made.

Makes me wonder if the current owner will ever upgrade and move on from this one. This is getting really old and outdated.

I heard she also hit the breakwater coming in.
I was there a few months ago and there is a bit of current at the entrance to the marina, for a boat that size could be problematic.
Most likely a control issue, unless he came in to hot and could not slow down in time

I think she is still beautiful, and like her clean conservative straight lines.
She needs a refit probably to make her work better.
It can be updated in a way without taking nothing away from her graceful lines IMO.

But then nowadays I am bored from this S-line Lurrsenish as introduced in Carinthia VII since 2002 lines being the standard in most 80 meters plus in the last decades.

I believe a full refit would be necessary. Almost a complete guy just like Attessa IV to keep up with modern times.
