Looks like the first 1 minute of the other 2 minute video link. It ends just about the moment when it happens.

I'm seeing the mast heel over to the left at about the 1:10 mark in the longer video. At least that's what I think I'm seeing.

I am not surprised the keel was up, safer to navigate in an anchorage, no keel needed, the sails were furled and the weather was settled.

I had a sailboat in the Caribbean with a center board, pretty much a retractable keel: Approaching an anchorage we pulled it up but had less stability. Leave the bronze board down and it would be noisy in rolling seas so we left it up,
I never thought it could save the boat in a big blow, didn’t have the experience, first boat, 1985.

This one however must have been a big surprise for the Captain and the crew, as well as the naval architect and the yard.

So is there a video available longer than the 1 minute?

No, I saw several short videos, but one seems to be “fake”. (No idea what the trolls gain by posting a fake video..)

The video posted by rtrafford is just over 2 minutes. The boat appears to roll over at roughly the halfway point in that video.

That video is pretty poor quality BUT, the interesting thing is how little movement the mast had before the knockdown. My guess it has gryos running ? From where I sit that was a micro-burst not a waterspout.

Do sailboats have gyros or stabilizers? I always thought they didn’t.

Will be interesting thinking about the 85m sloop coming from Royal Huisman. Larger rig, bigger loads, now more questions.

Has there been any report on the status of the transom door? Was the garage open?

That being said the "fake" one does tell the story, albeit that one righted. She laid nearly parallel.

The garage was open on this one, and/or it was direct hit from a spout, or something very unique occurred that differentiated it from any surrounding vessels. Something hit it, pinned it, and perhaps disturbed water surface pressures all in a calamity of events.

Possibly a strong downdraft, also called microbursts, they usually come from thunderstorms: Heavy cold air dumping straight down until it hits land or sea, then it changes to strong horizontal gusts.

Looks like she dragged anchor before she was knocked down:

Yep.butvtjen if she dragged how could she have been knocked down by winds on the beam. Unless ais kept broadcasting for a few minutes while down

    two bodies were just recovered.

You're right, they don't. Interestingly the inertia of the masts and wind pressure in the sails when underway 'stabilise' and dampen motions wonderfully.

Maybe not. This seems to be such a freak occurrence that it's hard to piece together a scenario that could possibly result in a sinking. Will be very interesting to read the MAIB report.

Watched a video today that discussed the forward recessed living area, essentially a hard sided (windows) tent as being a critical potential for rapid infusion. It's up forward of the bridge, surrounding the mast. Also discussed the board up as a potential delay for righting.

I was reading some Italian newspapers. According to the Fire Brigade and the Coast Guard divers who carried out the initial hull inspections, the keel of the yacht appeared to be partially raised.
