We lived on a canal up The New River for 23 years + and have seen it all, but this a new one.

Aye, no solution just an observation: This is my old stomping grounds and I operated such boats on deliveries now and then.

The mansion in the background is right at the intersection of the New River and the ICW.
The owner of mansion made his fame and fortune inventing the Bendix drive for automotive starters.
Been boating by the corner 1,000 times or more.
Kind of miss Fort Lauderdale, never dull..

Sister-ship to the boat i run with the same POS TNT swim platform. No locks so if a hose pops a leak the platform drops.

when crossing open waters we use ratchet straps to lock platform up using the cleats in the cockpit

the black smoke out of the 16V2000 is worry some…

I now see the davit lead helping hold the platform up.
I have other acronyms for this but I like Carl, I'll cut some slack tonight for him.

The first Patent of the starter Bendix we are familiar with today was in 1925. However the Sprag Clutch pinon gear was in use much, much earlier.
Sadly, as it has to happen, Vincent Hugo Bendix passed in 1945 (age 63).

Strange, he was a Yankee and died in New York.

Not sure if that cut and fill was in place back then.

Disregard, the owner of the mansion didn’t do staters motors, but air conditioning components for cars. My bad.

I believe he is no longer with us either. He was also a yacht owner- Lady Columbo and Barbara Jean.

You are correct. He passed away a little over 2 years ago. Property sold. New owner razed all buildings on the property. I had the pleasure of keeping a Hargrave on the dock there for 3 months. The most picturesque dockage I have ever experienced without the house there. Truly a "$50 million dollar view"
2nd pic is not me but my very sporty Mate leaning against his very sporty car :)

Giving the Capt/Owner the benefit of the doubt, he my be heading to one of the shipyards up the river to get that platform fixed.
I've limped home with patches and band aids many times.

Yeah, the boat could have been sitting and fallen in disrepair then sold as is..
On the other hand, this listing says she had a refit 2023 and now ready for charters:

I didn’t take the picture, it came on my news feed and a bit unusual as most 100’+ yachts in Fort Lauderdale are well maintained, not jury rigged in a cloud of black smoke.

Doesn’t have to be falling into disrepair, all it take is one hose to pop and down goes one side of the platform

happened to us three years ago an hour after clearing in cat cay. The bank was choppy so it was tough getting the tender off and under tow, then rigging lines to continue. We were very lucky that it didn’t happen a couple Of hours earlier in the stream.

I always carry a couple of hydraulic hoses so after anchoring in Morgan’s Bluff we just replaced the burst hose.

so yes it’s very likely this boat is heading up to a year for marina for repairs.

after our incident upon return to miami we replaced all the hoses but used the same SS braided hoses used by TNT. Two months ago I noticed they were getting rust spots so we replaced them again with rubber hydraulic hoses.

now again, that black smoke is a different story. I can t remember the prévious name for that boat…

odd… she s flying a US flag (pretty small) but no home port and she a not coming up in the USCG database
