I have a couple of nuisance bilge pumps we added to some low points in the Laz. One of them doesn’t work in Auto mode anymore but it does work with the switch held over to manual. I have those Rule switches that have Auto-Off-Manual positions. Has anyone had this issue? Is it usually the pump or the switch that is bad? It is difficult to get to the location on the back of my switches to put a meter on to troubleshoot. Does anyone know which of the two wires going to the pump should have power for Auto mode if the switch is working correctly? Would the switch deliver power continuously while in Auto mode or would it only deliver for the 1-2 seconds when it cycles in Auto?

Thanks CR. No float switch on this set up. I got it figured out. The pump was bad on the auto mode. Those 3 way switches send constant power via the brown wire to the auto mode side of the pump. I replaced the pump and working as it should now.

Are you using these pumps with built in switches??

    junk.

the only way to go is standard manual rule pumps and ultra switches. Whenever i have a bad float switch, I replace with an ultra. Well worth the extra money. I think I m down to 2 rule switches out of 5 on my 53. And all of them were replaced about 6 years ago when I replaced all the pumps and wiring.

Thanks Pascal. I am using Rule model 25SA pump and the 3 way switch. I do not have float switches. They operate in the auto mode all the time. I have the Ultra switches on the primary pumps in the Laz which are aft. These extra pumps are just to keep the water from collecting in the forward part of the Laz as I get some water in around the fish boxes. I put these in as secondary pumps as just enough water can collect up forward that when I get up on plane the water will surge aft and set off the alarm before the main pumps can clear it. So it’s just more of a nuisance set up than anything else. There isn’t enough that collects up forward to activate an Ultra switch (water doesn’t get deep enough).

    Oh, these pumps...
They come on every few minutes, when they do not sense a current (water on the motor blade), they turn back off.
If they sense any restriction, they figure water on the impeller and run for a few minutes or when current draw is reduced plus a a short amount of time.
IMO, not good for sumps or low water areas.
