Chris Craft 501 on the hard 3years

    Good point about flying. Although I don't usually think of water skiing and motor yacht in the same sentence.

    Anyway, think I'd want to do the power-to-weight math, though QSC 550, for example, versus QSM xxx? (from memory, 765? something like that?)

    Resolute looks nice.

    The QSC 8.3 / could make up to 650hp at one time.
    The EPA had an issue with 650hp so these were de-tuned to 600HP.
    Kind of made sense, not much displacement / torque to justify consuming that extra fuel.
    The QSL 9 may have helped a small bit but (IMO) not worth the effort.
    500 & 550HP ratings helps that fine engine live a lil bit longer.

    With 10.8L, the QSM11 offered some displacement improvement and was still able to still turn big RPMs.
    Currently around 715 HP.
    I had considered these as the replacements for my 11L, 12V71TIs at one time.

    Still, the 3406 and I6 will always have my heart making 800HP with piles of displacement and long life.

    Going to need that extra torque pulling my rear up on water skies.

    # of people accepting a 40 YO yacht on dry for 3 YEARS; ~ 1,134
    # of people tolerate the DD screamer V engines in ANY boat; ~ 71
    # of people looking for the DD engine, in a 40YO boat sitting for 3 years; ~ 9
    # of last entry willing to pay more than scrap value($35k?) for above; 1

    We have achieved the asymptote of the horz delimiter.

    At least this gives that one buyer some massive price leverage. :rolleyes:

    edit; QSM-11 dry stack exh eng swap? Really?

    It's wet after the turbo.
    I used to be concerned with the dry exhaust manifold.
    It really is a sweet package now.

    After the turbo is not important. Your Cummins guru referenced in another thread has a lot to say about them. It is not - pretty.

    I think they are on retrofit solution number 37 now.

    You might be the focus of another integral calc who considers them 'a sweet package'. But - I digress.

    You should of seen what the early versions of that manifold looked like.
    Many of these are still racking up hours with no problems.

    For what it is, it is a sweet package. I have run a few of them now.

    My wife and I purchased a 1985 500 Connie in 2018 with 692s. ran it from Stillwater MN to Lake Michigan then down to FL and up to North Carolina.
    Put about 1000 hours and 6000 miles on it with no major issues. Sold it with about 3400 hours on it and still running strong. Just saying.
    Get it surveyed and sea trialed before you go replacing them!

    That might have been me 10-12yrs ago, ended up putting the guy who was in the US looking in touch with a guy in Auckland NZ who claimed to have some, never heard the outcome or don't remember of I did :D
