A lot of boats moving today after sitting tight to wait out the weather. Saw 2 very nice old Burgers. One was Skylark. Didn’t catch the name of the other.

I used to drool over those when I was a kid, looking through my Dad's Motorboating & Sailing magazine classifieds.

Thanks for posting MYL. Growing up on the docks of Bahia Mar, I spent my free-time sketching Burgers and Browards. Little did I know it would take me down the path of building digital docks.

Your welcome. Thanks for the great forum. I was at Bahia Mar almost a week ago. Was there when the tornado came through. There was a beautiful Broward (I believe) but in a slip and could not get a good picture. It is my understanding that the Browards were not good sea boats and not as highly regarded as the Burgers. Can you shed any light on that?

My experience is limited to a 1982 72' Broward. It was not a great sea boat. It had a round bilge hull with stabs. With a good breeze, it would heel like a sailboat. Burger's were always better built boats even though they shared similar naval architecture. If you're running up and down the ditch, a Broward will serve you well. They are often less costly to acquire, but you'll likely pay for it later. If I was choosing between the two, hands down a Burger!

Somewhere on this site there is a quote from you that went something like
    " Don't be a coward, set out in a Broward "
Which I think of & chuckle every time I see one !

The 63 was painted Kingston Grey when she was MEDORA.

The big one looks pretty Hargrave style. Like it for some reason...
    Feels like a ship.

My handle (motoryacht lover) stems from my childhood looking at a neighbors boating magazines and loving the old Hatteras MYs. I have always really liked Jack Hargrave’s designs. I originally thought that Hargrave was behind all of the older burgers but then found out Sparkman and Stephens drew a lot of the early Burgers. So I like the Sparkman and Stevens stuff as well. One of the things I don’t like about some of the above’s early designs is no seems to have thought about a cockpit. I think a cockpit adds to the aesthetic appeal and also greatly improves stern line handling. I am surprised at how many of the forum members like the older traditional lines. Seems most these days like the cutting edge European designs.

I cast ammonia on European designs.
There is nothing nicer than original old designs from our coast.
I always favored Fexas as the most sleek designer. Luved the commuters and that Lace.

S&S and Hargrave designed boats for Burger to build for some time. It was as if there were two different companies named Burger. S&S with the pilot house aft, hard chines, sleek lines. Hargrave pushed the wheel house forward, soft chines, full displacement yet no snap st sea as the Hatteras fleet provided. Likely the fulcrum point was lower with the metal boats featuring lower freeboard, too.

I grew up aboard a 65 S&S Burger built with a cockpit. I've often thought about adding one to the current Hargrave. Longer water line, double the fuel hold, access water and docking with greater ease. Who knows what the future holds here...

Anywhere I go, whatever marina or anchorage, my eye always finds the classic lines around me...

I am going to contact a naval architect and have him draw up an extended swim platform and/or a cockpit and explore the cost of those options. I have decided to keep my boat and I want a cockpit or at a minimum an extended swim platform with stairs up to the aft deck and some staple rails. Tired of the ladder and smallish swimstep. Really miss not having a cockpit.

That was Blue Lady back in the 70's. Cockpit was built with the vessel by Burger, and the lines were superb.

Is this the same boat? I didn’t include the one in this picture as I didn’t think it was a Burger. this was taken a couple of months ago in NC.
